Microsoft has stated that their new camera app, Lumia Camera 5, will be packaged with the upcoming Lumia Denim software update. This update will bring a bunch of new features to Lumia 830, 930, 1520 and Lumia Icon. The expected features include: 4K Video, Dynamic Flash, Auto HDR among others.
In the meantime, Microsoft has renamed Lumia Camera app to Lumia Camera Classic. It can be a little bit confusing for the average person, seeing that it is the same app and just a different name. Here is Microsoft’s statement:
Lumia 830, 930, 1520 and Icon will automatically get the new Lumia Camera 5 application with the Lumia Denim software update. Lumia Camera Classic represents the existing camera (formerly known as Nokia Camera, now Lumia Camera 4). This application lets you revert back to the predecessor version. Go to Store to download and install.
Updating to Lumia Camera Classic
If you still have Nokia Camera on your Lumia smartphone, you should download the rebranded app, Lumia Camera Classic. Note that for some reason, the re-branded app doesn’t replace Nokia Camera on your phone. Both apps will exist side-by-side and you have to take some steps.
If you use Nokia Camera as your default camera app and have downloaded Lumia Camera Classic, you need to got to Settings – Applications – Photos & Camera to change your defualt camera app from Nokia Camera to Lumia Camera Classic.
Once you have switched your default camera app, you can uninstall Nokia Camera from your smartphone, and you are good.
