Once upon a time, if you wanted an Android smartphone that would receive the fastest software updates for two years, you hand only the Nokia brand to pick from (if you didn’t want a Google Pixel). While Nokia no longer provides the fastest updates, the once mobile phone giant still keeps its promise of delivering those updates for up to two years. Which is why this 2-year old Nokia 5G mid-ranger is getting updated to Android 12 now.
Released in March 2020, Nokia 8.3 5G features a 6.5-inch display, Snapdragon 765G chipset, up to 8 GB of RAM, 4500mAh battery and 18W fast charging. As the name suggests, it supports 5G networks. Internal storage maxes out at 128 GB and it sports a 64-megapixel camera at the back.
Nokia 8.3 5G is the closest thing to a premium flagship that HMD Global has released in the last 3 years. The company has since said that it has no plans to release a premium flagship till further notice and will be focused on the entry-level and budget segments of the market. The last premium flagship released by HMD Global was the Nokia 9 PureView in 2019.
Launched with Android 10, Nokia 8.3 5G received Android 11 last year, and Android 12 is currently rolling out to it. It has a price tag of $480 at Best Buy in the United States, sells for as high as €500 in Europe, and ₦222,600 in Nigeria. It is hard to find these days, though, so you have to search hard if you are interested in picking one up for yourself.
