There are a lot of adventure games on Google Play, and a lot of them are really enjoyable. However, Altos Adventure has an extra element of adrenaline with it. On the surface, this game seems simple enough. All you need to do is guide the snowboarder Alto down a treacherous mountain. However, like most things that seem easy on paper, it is not that simple.
In this game, you join Alto and his friends as they embark on an endless snowboarding odyssey. You journey across the beautiful alpine hills of their native wilderness, and through neighboring villages, ancient hills and long-abandoned ruins. Also, you get to rescue runaway Llamas, leap over terrifying chasms and outsmart the mountain elders. Alto’s adventure gives you specific goals with each stage, and you are tasked with achieving these goals before you reach the end of the mountain or crash. That’s where the difficulty lies, as these goals are not easy to achieve at all. Also, the stages are procedurally generated, which means that every run is different.
Altos Adventure is also visually stimulating. The designers created some quite views, with simple flat shapes and deft use of color and lighting. There are also smooth transitions between cool evenings and warm sunrises, combined with weather effects and an elegant piano-based soundtrack. All these combine to give you an amazing blend of audio-visual material. In fact, with this game, even when something blocks your view you would appreciate the beauty of what you’re seeing. That’s more than you can say for a lot of games.
Normally, sliding down a mountain in any context is thrilling. However, Altos Adventure ads challenges and an ethereal feel to the idea, and this feels really good. For example, the shooting star scenes in the night sky are quite mind-blowing.
Alto’s Adventure is available for free on Google Play Store. You can play the game offline, but you will need to connect to the internet to spend the coins you earn in the game.
