French multinational telecommunications corporation, Orange SA, has launched a new 100% mobile banking service in France. Called Orange Bank, the new service allows users make payments with their mobile, send money via SMS, check their bank account balance, and more all from their mobile phone.
We have seen similar services launched on mobile networks in Kenya, Nigeria and elsewhere. This is the first time such a service is available in France. Orange says that the new service was designed ground up for use on a mobile phone, so that customers can carry out all operations from a mobile phone. This includes account opening, transfers, and interaction with customer service.
All banking transactions can be done via SMS or via mobile app.
How Orange Bank Happened
Orange Bank came into being after a majority stake acquisition in Groupama Banque and a subsequent re-branding. The Orange Group is leveraging on its experience running Orange Money and Orange Cash. The former has 34 million customers in the Africa and Middle East, while Orange Cash has 500,000 users in France.
Orange Bank is reported to also be working on insurance products and loans. The new service will be launched in Spain and Belgium as well.
9mobile has seen a fair share of troubles in recent times. From the loan face-off with creditor banks, to the pull-out by it’s technical partner, Etisalat. And now, our sources confirm that the Nigerian mobile network operator is embarking on massive layoffs.
Staff of the company are unsure of their fate as they await a formal announcement of who will be let go.
This story is developing…..

Telkom Kenya Internet Configuration Settings
Ideally, Telkom Kenya should automatically configure your smartphone with the appropriate internet settings. But should that not happen, you can send a blank message to 1234 and the configuration settings will be sent to your phone. If you can handle manual setup, here is the info you need:
Go to the Network settings on your device and create an APN and name it “Telkom”. The name isn’t important. Under the following fields, enter the settings provided below:
- Name: Telkom
- APN: telkom
Leave everything else blank, then save this APN profile. Select it as your preferred APN and you are good to go. Those are the settings that you need to be able to use these Telkom Kenya data plans on your smartphone.
Telkom Kenya 4G LTE Coverage/Service
At the time of compiling this, Telkom Kenya has 4G LTE coverage in Nairobi and Mombassa, with the rest of the country covered with 3G and 2G networks.

Lagos October 1, 2017: The board of ntel, Nigeria’s first 4G/LTE-Advanced network, is pleased to announce the appointment of Ernest Akinlola, as its substantive Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer.
Ernest is a senior executive with 20+ years extensive experience in Telecoms Media & Technology. He joined the fledgling One 2 One telecoms operator in the UK and was instrumental in establishing a world class internal audit and compliance department.
As Head of Department he led the assessment and subsequent launch of Virgin Mobile UK on the One 2 One network which proved to be the pioneering MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator) at the time. Following One 2 One’s acquisition by T-Mobile, Ernest was a key member on the integration team, leading on commercial strategy and growing the wholesale side of the business to launch several MVNO’s focused on specific customer segments. He was an integral member of the team charged with executing Virgin Mobile’s $1.5bn IPO. Many senior roles followed including leading the transformational roll out of T-Mobile’s store retail programme.
Having led teams in Marketing, Sales, Finance, Strategic Planning, Business Development and Operations in blue chip telecoms companies, Ernest was headhunted as COO by Lycamobile (the world’s largest international MVNO) to lead its European strategy, successfully expanding into 10 countries within 2 years.
Following this notable success in Europe, Ernest focused on Nigeria’s telecoms sector and was approached to lead a major marketing drive for Etisalat (9Mobile), the 4th entrant in a highly competitive telecoms market. As Marketing Director, he spearheaded a range of initiatives that took Etisalat from the 4th ranked operator to the 2nd, in terms of ARPU and active customer base.
Immediately prior to joining ntel, Ernest was a strategic consultant to several blue chip organisations including Blackberry Nigeria, the World Bank, and most recently provided strategic oversight to Swazi Mobile in formulating a commercial strategic plan for the successful application of a 4G VoLTE, 3G, 2G licence in Swaziland, South Africa. This has underpinned the impressive growth of Swazi Mobile in less than 3 months of operations.
Ernest is a Fellow of The Chartered Certified Accountants, holds an MBA from Manchester Business School with a first degree in Economics from UEL.
Commenting on his new appointment, Ernest Akinlola said “I am excited to be appointed MD/CEO of ntel, Nigeria’s pre-eminent 4G/LTE network. ntel has tremendous untapped capabilities which can provide a step change in customer experience for Large Enterprise, SME’s and Consumers. I look forward to leading the team in driving innovation and delighting our current and future customers”
ntel had previously assured its stakeholders that the leadership transition from the previous incumbent would be smooth and orderly in accordance with global best practices. We are pleased to report that there has been no adverse impact on the business operations and the company would like to thank Abhulime Ehiagwina (CFO) for holding the fort during the transition period.
ntel is Nigeria’s first advanced 4G/LTE network providing superfast Internet access that enables voice, data video and TV on demand. The ntel network is built on the 900/1800 Mhz which are the best propagation frequencies for the deployment of 4G/LTE technology.
Our bouquet of offerings includes: National Bandwidth, International Voice Termination, International Bandwidth, Mobile Network and Fixed Network and a part ownership of SAT-3 cable system, Africa’s longest submarine cable, covering a distance of 28,800km, with a total capacity of about 1,000 Gbps.
The company made its first on-net test data call in Lagos on Monday January 18, 2016 then followed up with its first on-net Voice over LTE call in Lagos on Tuesday, February 23, 2016.
We first told you about YouTube Go some months ago. Back then, the app was available for download only in India. Now, Google has officially announced the availability of YouTube Go in Nigeria.
How YouTube Go Works
YouTube Go lets users preview videos in order to decide what to watch or download. Users can also choose the video quality that their internet connection can handle better and proceed to save the video for viewing offline at their own convenience. This helps users manage available internet connections and data consumption better.
Users of YouTube Go can also share videos with family and friends without using data. Google has announced that the YouTube Go app has now been thrown open so the anyone in Nigeria can now download it from the Google Play Store.
Why YouTube Go In Nigeria?
“YouTube Go has been designed to take into account the challenges faced by YouTube users in countries like Nigeria, such as data cost and connectivity. With YouTube Go, we are making it possible for everyone in Nigeria to be able to discover videos that they love, regardless of their network status or data consumption preferences.” – Johanna Wright, VP Product Management at YouTube.
Google further affirmed that they are working hard to make products that are tailored to Nigerians’ specific needs. The cost and quality of internet access in Nigeria has been a huge bottleneck in the adoption of internet-dependent mobile apps and services. While newer 4G LTE networks are bringing faster mobile internet access to the country, most mobile users are still stuck on 2G and 3G data plans.
Before developing YouTube Go, the YouTube team spent thousands of hours gathering information, conducting interviews, doing testing, and refining the product. The result is YouTube Go, an entirely new YouTube app that is designed to be offline first.
YouTube Go Mobile App Still In Development
The YouTube app is still in development and may be unstable at the time of going to press. There is a statement to this effect in the Android market app, Play Store. Being in development means that Google is using feedback from usage to improve the YouTube Go mobile app.
When you install YouTube Go and launch it, the mobile app will request for your mobile number in order to be able to use it.

It started as isolated murmurs, but quickly developed into an uproar. Over the last few weeks, subscribers of former Etisalat Nigeria, now called 9mobile, have raised their voices in complaint about quality of service on the network. The complaints of 9mobile subscribers range from poor internet connections to outright network outages in various locations.
Sampling Of Complaints By 9mobile Subscribers
We have curated a few tweets that capture the situation:
Meanwhile etisalat left with all the network.. 9mobile is an apology
— Adétóyèse (@Mister_Badmus) August 21, 2017
Dear 9mobile, network reception was never this bad with etisalat o. What's the problem??? You guys should please fix your issues. Thank you
— D@ EVENT GUY (@OSBARTH) August 17, 2017
Today is the day I quit 9mobile. Guys who has better service, MTN or Airtel?
— 678-999-8212 (@PeejOPJ) August 18, 2017
How is it that Etisalat/9mobile went from being the best network for great internet to being this crappy??
Did they leave with their masts?
— Ized Uanikhehi (@zegbua) August 17, 2017
I don't know how you can bounce back from this…48hours of complete network outage?!!
But hey, I wish you well.@9mobileng
— Chidinma Udezeh (@chidi_appanage) August 18, 2017
The crumble is setting in. 9mobile showing "no service" inside Lagos. Off and on for a week now. I dey laf!
— Bob Guy (@akpoefe) August 20, 2017
I want to leave 9mobile. Who do you guys recommend I port to… like I know they're all terrible but who is the least terrible?
— Abike (@Jollz) August 20, 2017
Please if you can't reach me, send me a message. 9mobile has gone rogue.
— Victor A-K (@Woulk3r) August 21, 2017
So, 9Mobile is currently crap. A brother needs to change sides. Thinking either Glo or Airtel obviously
— Dr. Robert O. Ifeonu (@Sir_Scribbles) August 21, 2017
Should 9Mobile be renamed 419Mobile?
How many days after taking over, the network has just refused to respond.
— emma ogidi (@OgidiEmma) August 21, 2017
It's safe to say MTN is now the best network! 9mobile is all shades of nonsense! 😠😠😠
Bring back etisalat! 😭😭
— #RIPGrandPa 😢 (@Wenny__3) August 21, 2017
The question is, What is happening at 9mobile? Is this a random incident or is there something deeper that should be a cause for concern for 9mobile subscribers and other stakeholders?
The network recently rebranded after Etisalat UAE pulled out of the partnership after talks over a $1.2 billion loan fell through. 9mobile has a heavy debt load that is an obstacle to the inflow of fresh funds that the network operator needs for expansion.

The thing about cars is that people tend to want more and more gadgets strapped to their hoods, doors, mirrors and even tires. A whole new generation has been influenced by James Bond movies where the titular character didn’t just have his wits about him but also had cool technology to help him beat the bad guys. When those movies first came out, most of those tricks were pure science fiction and movie goers were left in awe. Now however, many of those gimmicks are now available on real cars. We have a few for you.
Calling from your car
There used to be a time when people could only dream of being able to place calls directly from their car. It was truly the ultimate “mobile” solution. That is no longer the case as mobile phones have been around for a very long time. Also for a very long time, people have had the comfort of Bluetooth technology and through it they can hook up their phones to the car system easily. Plus some new car systems have inbuilt software and hardware that you can place calls with even without using your phone. You can even do video calls in some cars.
Stopping enemies in their tracks
Today, having something spew from the rear side of your car directly onto the portion of the road behind you and in the path of a pursuing vehicle is a huge cliché. That doesn’t mean that people weren’t excited to see it happen when it first started popping up in movies, cartoons and even video games many years. If you really want to, you can have a system like that hooked up to your own car. However there’s not much legality behind the concept, nor will it be soon approved by local authorities. Just be aware that the technology exists today.
Another really cool thing to see on TV some time ago was a car that could turn into a naval vehicle in an instant. There are such things as amphibian vehicles available nowadays and they offer users the opportunity to traverse land and water, switching at the user’s will. The really neat thing is that this is more than just a gimmick. It’s actually something really useful that has transitioned from screen to reality very nicely and is used today by those who need that kind of mobility either for their line of work or personal convenience.
The law requires all registered vehicles to have a license plate. That makes it really hard to be mischievous on the road because the police can easily authenticate you and know where to find you. But what if you could switch your license plate with the push of a button? You’d be pretty much invisible. It is easier to be up to no good when no one knows who you are. That being said it is best if you keep that to an academic curiosity and not try to pull it off. But the technology to do it exists should you need to go on an undercover operation. Other than that, please stay law abiding.
To Infinity And Beyond!
It is very exciting to see how far technology has come along. In James Bond movies, our favourite licenced secret agent was able to pull off many neat stunts with the help of incredible cars. We already have experimental and pre-production flying cars. One day, reality will surpass James Bond.
Do you need to extract images from Microsoft Word for use elsewhere and need an easy way to do it? We share two methods in this article.
So a colleague, client or some other person has sent you a Microsoft Word document with a number of images embedded in it. Everything looks good. Superb. Except that it isn’t so straightforward to extract the images if you need to use them elsewhere – say in a blog post or a presentation.
We have had to deal with this situation many times. In this article, we show you an easy way to go about extracting those embedded images. We will deal with this in two sections, one for extracting a single image, and the other for extracting multiple images.
Extract A Single Image From A Word Document
If you want to extract a single image, the process is easy:
- Open the Word document you want to extract the image from.
- Right click on the image and select Copy.
- Open Paint, PhotoShop or any other image editor on your PC and paste the image in a new blank page.
- Save the image with an appropriate name.
That’s it. Your image is saved and you can edit and use it as you please.
Extract Images From Microsoft Word
To extract multiple images, you can use the above procedure and repeat it for each image till you have them all saved. To get it one quicker though, there is another method that you can use. Here are the steps to follow to extract multiple images from a Microsoft Word document:
- Open the Word document from which you would like to extract images
- Click File on the main menu at the top left corner.
- Click Save As.
- Select Other Formats
- Specify the location you want to save it to.
- Select Web Page from the drop-down menu
- Click Save
You will find the file now saved as a folder if you check the location you chose. Open the folder and you will find all the images that were embedded in the Word document in there. You can copy them from there to edit and use as you need them.
Now you have two ways to extract images from Microsoft Word for use in other documents or on a wide variety of platforms. Enjoy.
