Optiemus Infracom Ltd, a Delhi-based telecom company, has been exclusively licensed to design and manufacture BlackBerry-branded phones in India. Blackberry devices – handsets running BlackBerry’s Android-based security software – that are made by Optiemus will also be sold in Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bangladesh.
Optiemus is the largest contract manufacturer for smartphones in India and has exclusive contracts from LG, Oppo, OnePlus and HTC.
Under the terms of this agreement, BlackBerry will licence its security software and services suite, as well as related brand assets, to Optiemus Infracom Ltd. The Indian company will design, manufacture, distribute, promote, sell and provide customer support for BlackBerry-branded Android smartphones in the listed countries.
BlackBerry Ltd. will be responsible for security updates to the BlackBerry-branded smartphones manufactured and sold by Optiemus.
BlackBerry-branded Phones Licensees
This brings to three (3) the number of hardware license partners that Blackberry has signed up. TCL Communications and BB Merah Putih in Indonesia are the other two licensees. TCL is licensed to design and manufacture BlackBerry-branded phones for the global market. BB Merah Putih is licensed to source, distribute and promote Blackberry-branded devices for the Indonesia market only.
