Apparently, BlackBerry and Nokia S40 users have some serious juju that they are pulling off on WhatsApp. These old guards have gotten another extension from WhatsApp after the last deadline of June 30th, 2017.
WhatsApp had initially announced that they would end support for Android 2.1, Android 2.2, Windows Phone 7.1, BlackBerry OS, BlackBerry 10, Symbian S60 and Nokia S40 phones by the end of 2016. Then, that deadline was extended to June 30, 2017. And now, WhatsApp has further extended support for BlackBerry and Nokia S40 till end of this year.
There is no respite for Symbian S60 users though. Apparently, there are not enough users left on that platform to make it reasonable for WhatsApp to give an extension. Come June 30th, 2017, WhatsApp users on Symbian S60 smartphones are toast.
Last WhatsApp Extension for BlackBerry and Nokia S40?
If you are one of the last men standing with BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry 10, you just got another break till the end of the year. Don’t worry if your phone is still reading the old notice. As soon as you receive a WhatsApp update, the old notice will go away and be replaced by a new one stating the December 31, 2017 extension.
Do not push your luck hoping for another extension after this though. This is likely to be the very last one. It is time you switched to a more modern mobile platform.
