Qualcomm is preparing to launch a successor to the Snapdragon 810 SoC (system-on-chip). This new one will be named Snapdragon 820. The new processor is said to come with 35% performance improvement and will be officially announced 11th of August in an event in the US.
If you’ve been folowing mobile trends, you must have heard that the Snapdragon 810 had serious overheating issues and had to be underclocked in many cases to the able to minimize the heating. So it will be interesting to see how this new one pans out.
Meanwhile specs sheets of the upcoming processor leaked over the internet with quite some new stuff to yearn for:
- The code name will be MSM8996.
- It will hold, 64-bit Quad CPUs offering a 35%performance improvement.
- The graphic side will come with Adreno 530 GPU with 40% performance improvement.
- Overall 30% better power efficiency.
Though all these are still on paper, we can’t really say much till we see it in action. Meanwhile we won’t be seeing this in any device for now till maybe the end of the year. But surely we’ll get to see it in flagship devices early next year.
Update 11/08/2015: New reports HERE suggests that the launch date is no longer on the 11th of August (today)as anticipated, rather it’s a different event titled SGGRAPH 2015. On this event, Qualcomm might be showing some gaming/graphics-related technologies. All the same, we know Qualcomm is working on a new processor, though we can’t specify it’s launch date.
