Distracted driving is one of the leading causes of road accidents. There are a lot of road accidents that could have been prevented if the driver was a bit more careful. Sometimes, the driver could be as careful as he/she could, only for a tiny distraction to undo all their effort and cause a crash. There are a lot of things that can cause distracted driving, but a lot of these things can be prevented. Here are a few distractions to avoid while driving:

TALKING ON THE PHONE

If you must talk on the phone while driving, make sure you install a hands-free device in your car. Also, you could use a headset. No matter what you do, do not hold the phone to your ear with one hand while handling the steering wheel with the other hand. It is dangerous.

TEXTING, CHATTING AND UPDATING SOCIAL MEDIA

Stay Safe on the Road - avoid distracted driving.

Browsing the internet while driving is not only very dangerous, but also absolutely irresponsible. Social media will not be gone by the time you park your car, so you might as well hold on with the statue updates till you get off the road.

DAYDREAMING

A lot of distracted driving happens when the driver is simply thinking of something else instead of focusing on the road ahead. The road is not a place to sit and think about trivial pursuits, therefore you need to apply your full concentration while on the road.

KEEPING AN EYE ON THE KIDS

Some kids tend to play around while in the car, and this is one of the biggest causes of distracted driving for young mothers. The driver of the car should not be the one to keep an eye on them. The kids should be securely strapped in the safety seat at all times.

APPLYING MAKEUP OR GROOMING

This is quite irresponsible. If you must apply make up on the road, let someone else drive.

EATING, DRINKING OR SMOKING

Food is an important part of our daily lives. However, eating while behind the steering is dangerous.

STREET SEARCHING

This means searching for a particular building while driving down a street.  This could cause commotion in the middle of the road. It is better to park and ask for directions.

Some other distractions to avoid while driving include:

  • Arguing with passengers
  • Fiddling with the in-car electronics
  • Watching in-dash videos while driving
  • Paying too much attention to things happening by the side of the road
  • Chasing flies inside the car
