Last weekend, Airtel launched a very juicy weekend plan for uses in Nigeria. This plan offered a whole 1024 MB of data for just N100. Sounds too good to be true right? 🙂 We were all concerned about genuineness of this data plan, based on past experiences with Airtel. I decided to give this a try and see how it goes, After all N100 isn’t much of a loss, and here’s my verdict:
I subscribed on Friday evening, at about 6:30 pm. Messages immediately started rolling in. “Wow!! so this plan truly works” I thought. I was able to load a few webpages too. On getting home, everything seized. Nothing opened, only WhatsApp messages were puling through. Chai!! I don fall mugu 😀 Even after rebooting, same trend continued, I just vexed and dropped the phone.
At exactly 12:04 am Saturday morning, web pages started opening again. This time it was super fast. I went ahead and switched to download mode. I was hitting speeds of 300-700KB/s not bad at all. Saturday surprisingly, the thing worked without slowing down, no network down time. I now found myself trying not to finish the data prematurely 😆
Even till Sunday, it worked with no form of breakages or throttling. Here are a few pointers to note:
- This plan works. Airtel doesn’t double charge this time 🙂
- To check your data balance along the line, dial *140# you’ll receive an SMS quoting your remaining data balance.
- Airtel notifies when you’ve used 75%, 95% and 100% of your data respectively (See screenshot above). Nice feature.
- A text from them said this plan expires on the 19th of November. Why should I have data left till that day? Best advice is to finish your data before Sunday mid-night.
- I don’t know if it’s possible to exhaust the data and resubscribe. Will have to try that next weekend.
In conclusion, this plan works. If you had doubts before, they should be cleared now. Nice one from Airtel. I just hope they let this last. Meanwhile, it would be interesting to see how other networks react to this.
I just want to see how long this lasts before throttling kicks in. I’m hoping it doesn’t.
it’s inevitable, once it becomes popular it’s bound to happen
And the funny thing is airtel customer care agents do not even know this plan exist
Sigh . if only they were reliable n consistent
It’s works for a few super selected customers, most subscribers ends up being told they’re not eligible and even some of the lucky few ends up being barred next weekend they try to resubscribe..seems to be more of a publicity stunt from Airtel..
Publicity stunt ABI publicity stunt, all my three Sims are not eligible.
Lol.
I sha know say airtel always have something cunning up their sleeve
Na here e end? No part 2 as insinuated?
