Fake Download Buttons will soon be over, promises Google

It is a regular experience. You roam around the internet, and you come across a file you would love to download. You click on the file and you’re presented with up to five download links. Oh! the dilemma and confusion. I’ve been there too 😆
Click HERE to download, Download Here or  Download now. Having to test each of them to know which is the real one. We know it is annoying. Google knows too.


In a blog post on their security page:

You may have encountered social engineering in a deceptive download button, or an image ad that falsely claims your system is out of date. Today, we’re expanding Safe Browsing protection to protect you from such deceptive embedded content, like social engineering ads.

As part of their Safe Browsing protection program, you will be warned whenever a website has such misleading ads. Remember those ones that tell you to update your antivirus or to upgrade your slow device – something like that. Nice move from Google.
