Free mobile internet everywhere – almost

On most of the GSM mobile networks now, it is becoming standard practice that when you load airtime, you are rewarded with some complimentary data for internet access. Some networks do even better and add free airtime and SMS.

On my own primary network, the amount of free data you are rewarded with is proportional to the airtime that you load. As such, the more you spend, the more free data you get. This is a good thing, of course. A lot of things sure have changed since the early days of mobile internet connections at N50 per minute.

Does your network give you any free internet data when you recharge? Do you find such a freebie useful?

  1. Etisalat gives me free 15mb per week however, I can’t remember when last I used it. I have BlackBerry and I’m surrounded by wifi almost every where I go so I really don’t for need for 15mb/week. I wish I could transfer it to people who really need it.

  2. My primary network is glo. I have been getting 25MB and N100 free for every 1K loaded until this june when it jumped to free 50MB and N500 free for every 1K loaded.

  3. Yep I use glo for my mobile internet and they give me 25mb bonus when I subscribe for the 1k 200mb for 30days… But I think these telecoms companies can do better… Atleast make it 1gig for 1k…thats not asking for toomuch na.

  4. My primary networks are glo and etisalat.

I normally get 5MB & N20 (glo to glo) bonus on recharge of N200 and 20MB and N100 (glo to glo) bonus on recharge of N500 this June.

On etisalat, I used to get 15MB on recharge of N200 every week until recently when I subscribed to smarphone data plan. Initially I used to receive sms on checking my account balance but has stopped the day I subscribed to smartphone data plan.

  5. My MTN line had long been relegated to receiving calls only.
Because of poor quality of airtel network, I used it once in three months, though I don’t know much of their current promo.

  6. My MTN has been relegated to receiving calls only while I use Glo for making calls and Etisalat for internet, Airtel when I have volume calls to make.

Glo gives me 25MB for each N1000 I load plus some credit and free SMS for Glo to Glo use. Etisalat given me about N300 for each N1000 loaded the next month and also gives bonus of 30% on each data bundle purchased and 300 seconds for U & Me number. I hope that hasn’t changed.

  7. My etisalat line is my main line at the moment. With every N200 recharge, I get N300 worth of free credit to call my you and me no, which before now I couldn’t enjoy because of my BB complete package. All that is history now though because I still enjoy all the freebies by simply sending COM to 399. This will ensure that I get suscribed for their BB complete plan while still enjoying all the easy starter benefits!

  8. I still can’t use my hotspot on my bb 9900, I use glo… It still says activation required, pls what do I do? I knw I av free internet bundle bt it stil says Activation required that I suld subscribe for a mobile hotspot plan, why?

  9. How come people are not mentioning MTN giving out anything? Those guys are so stingy. I have since relegated their sim as well. Used to me enjoy glo too but have now migrated to the baba of them all, etisalat. You can’t go wrong with those guys. 30% free data on purchase of any of their smart data plan. You also get to make calls at 20k per sec to any network.

  10. yeah, every one has said what i needed to say.except that My smartA of etisalat has messed up my data plans, cant get 15mb anymore
    I use glo too

Can you please elaborate on this because I’m still planning on trying the smartA again when my present subscription expires. I need to know how it messed up your data plan. Is there any other benefit that was affected apart from the 15MB bonus like the 30% data bundle bonus with every data subscription. And, is the 20k per second call rate working?

The major thing that is affected is the 15MB weekly data bonus on recharge of N200. The other thing is the sms confirmation on checking account balance and I think the 10 free MMS to etisalat network is affected too (who cares).
You get 30% data bundle bonus with every data subscription and you are automatically entitled to a call rate of 20K/sec to any network in Nigeria.

  13. The great MTN gives me a whooping N200 free credit to call…well u guessed…MTN numbers. However you only get this when subscribing to the BlackBerry Complete plan @ N1500. The weekly N500 plan comes with nothing
    .
I don’t know the amount of freebies those who subcribe to the full 3k plan get.

    MTN…the best network ever (sigh)

  14. Make a single N5,000 recharge on glo network and you get N5,000 free airtime, 800 free sms and 200MB free data.

  15. Glo gives 2mb when u recharge wt N200 card, N500 card gives u 20mb and 50mb for 1k card its easter promo bt ws extended til d end of dis month june cos Airtel copied d promo styl. SmartA on my etisalat has mess up my u&me i cant add, any body wt solution pls? I got 785 for u & me bt its nomore, now i hv 400, pls how do i use it?
