“Android is the way, the truth and the light”, these are probably the words ringing on the ears of any brand that wants to survive the currently, harsh mobile tech space. For quite a while now, the tide has gone the way of BlackBerry eventually switching to Android.
Speculations and rumors have prevailed a while until BlackBerry CEO, John Chen admitted that the company might switch to Android if Priv sells a certain number of units.
During the launch of the aforementioned phone in India few days ago, BlackBerry senior director, Damian Tay said the following:
“The PRIV device is essentially our transition to Android ecosystem. As we secure Android, over a period of time, we would not have two platforms, and may have only Android as a platform [for smartphones],” “But for now, we have BB10 and Android platforms for our smartphones.”
“The future is really Android. We went for Android essentially for its app ecosystem. In addition, all the enterprise solutions that we have been doing have been cross-platform for a long time now. So it’s a natural progression towards Android,” Tay said, explaining the move.
So far, we know that BlackBerry would continue providing (security) updates for BlackBerry 10 devices. This may just be a bad time to buy any of the older BlackBerries.
