Samsung are preparing to launch two budget Android devices for emerging markets. This is probably a move to catch a slice of the (low-end segment) cake where the numbers are. The two devices are named Samsung Galaxy On5 and Galaxy On7, and they will both be launched in a few weeks time starting in India.
Both phones share a lot in specs. Same 720p Super AMOLED display, same 1.3 GHz quad-core Exynos 3475 processor, and 1.5GB of RAM. Both phones will carry 8 GB of internal storage with a microSD card slot. For the differences, The Galaxy ON 5 comes with an 8MP back camera while the Galaxy On7 carries a 13 MP sensor. Meanwhile, both phones will have a 5 MP front facing camera.
Another difference, the Galaxy On5 is a 5-inch device with 2,600mAh battery, while the ON 7 is a 5.5-inch device with a bigger 3,000 mAh battery. The former is estimated to cost around $150, while the later will be approximately $200.
It’s also important to note that these devices where actually manufactured in India as part of the “Make in India” initiative.
