Nigerian mobile operator, Glo, commenced operations in Ghana in 2012, offering great promise in the market. However, there are disturbing reports the mobile operator may be running into trouble. These reports include network downtimes earlier in the year, as well as more recent reports that is laying off staff, closing shops and decommissioning cell towers in Ghana.
If the above reports are true, perhaps Glo’s subscriber growth isn’t matching the expansions she has invested in in Ghana in recent times. As at mid 2015, Glo had about 1.45 million subscribers in Ghana – a market share of 4.47%. Industry sources say this is a drop from 2.1 million subscribers in January 2015. We can only hope that Glo sorts out whatever issues they are currently facing. We will bring you updates as we have them.
