Google is launching a new Nexus smartphone model every year to keep the gadget savvy customers happy with an excellent software experience with Google. The first Nexus was from HTC, the next one was Nexus S by Samsung and the Nexus 4 was launched last year by LG. Since the entry of Nexus into the market, it has offered several numbers of bonuses to the Android enthusiasts that include low cost, high-end hardware and vanilla Android.
Nexus Smartphones are one of the best among the other available Smartphones considering their life span, software, features and everything else. There are lots of expectations from this year’s Nexus Smartphone, Nexus 5 as well. For those who are curious to know as to how the Nexus 5 will be different from the Nexus 4, here is a quick specifications comparison b/w Nexus 5 and Nexus 4.
Difference in Camera:
The leaked images show that LG’s Nexus 5 might come with a bigger size sensor than the previous one. As per the FCC filing, similar to the LG G2, this Nexus might have 13 MP of camera which will be better than that of Nexus 4. As the sensor is upgraded, we might expect better pictures in low light atmosphere as well.
Although, the camera of the phone has been singled out but the hardware of Nexus is expected to be improved than the previous one. The Nexus 4 has solid specs which include 4.7 inches of display with a resolution of 720p and powerful quad core processor. However, with Nexus 5, it’s expected that it would come with a display of 1080 p and a better processor. The resolution and screen size of Nexus 5 is not confirmed but we can expect that it would not be smaller than the Nexus 4.
When it comes to processor, it is confirmed that it will come with Snapdragon 800 quad core processor, and this might bring enhancements in the new version. This would be a level up to the Nexus 4 and would not be surprising.
Google is far way different from Apple and thus it doesn’t launch new devices with newer software for every Smartphone. The Nexus 4 and Galaxy Nexus has similar features, while iPhone 5 and iPhone 4 have different specs and iPhone 5 will have more features after the launch of iOS 7.
This means, the vanilla Android 4.4 KitKat in Nexus 5 will be same as that of the Nexus 4’s Android update.
From FCC filing, it is confirmed that Nexus 5 and Nexus 4 share similar limitations. This is not a big deal to guess that Nexus devices come with no card slots. The Nexus 5 can be expected to have two different storage choice, one 16GB and other is 32 GB, without any scope for expansion. The Nexus 4 didn’t have removable back and so is the case with Nexus 5. The FCC fillings say that it will have non-removable back and thus a non-removable battery.
Nexus 4 has internal storage capacity of 8GB and 16 GB with 2GB of RAM. It was enough for storing the necessary apps, games and documents. But as the Nexus 5 is the upgraded model it is expected to come with 16 GB and 32 GB of internal memory storage along with 3 GB of RAM which is definitely better than the Nexus 4.
The battery life of Nexus 4 was very less and loads of people complained about the poor battery backup but this is not a big issue as almost every Smartphone has battery issues. The battery life of the phone depends on how you make use of your device. However, this problem can be resolved in Nexus 5, being a next and better generation Smartphone. Nexus 5 will have battery 2300 mAh for 16 GB and 3000 mAh for 32 GB version. However, this is not confirmed, so it would be better to wait until the company release the details regarding the battery. Not every user encounters such issues but those who face it can ask for support from Google or LG to get it resolved.
The biggest pitfall of the Nexus 4 was the lack of 4G LTE connectivity. LTE is very common and generally appears on the high end as well as middle ranged phones. So, it is a bit surprising to see that Nexus 4 lacking it which made it a disaster.
We can guess that Nexus 5 might come with LTE bands and bridge the gap. Also, we can stay assured that the Nexus Smartphone coming this year will have LTE connectivity.
Nexus 5 to kill the presence of Nexus 4
The Nexus 4 is still on sale with 16 GB version of Google store and people can even buy it from T-mobile’s website. However, we are guessing that once the Nexus 5 enter the market, the Nexus 4 will vanish. And this might happen as the 8 GB version of Nexus phone is already discontinued and in case of other new launches from Google as well this was the trend. The original Nexus 7 is replaced by a new one and after the launch of Nexus 4, Galaxy Nexus got vanished from the shelves.
You can expect that T-mobile selling the older versions of Nexus similar to iPhone models. But this is for sure that Nexus 4 will not remain on the Google Play Store after the arrival of Nexus 5. Those who want to buy the older version should prefer buying them now, otherwise you might have to buy from a third party.
No more issues with supply:
Last year, it was observed that Nexus 4 suffered from extreme supply issues. This happened because Google underestimated the demand for Nexus 4 and blamed LG for it. The supply issues were also generated in the starting for Nexus 7 but this year, it is not so. The Google Play store had enough stock of Nexus 7 and it was seen to be available in US in different retail outlets. Google has learnt to manage the things after the supply issue regarding Nexus 4 and thus we can hope that it would not happen with Nexus 5.
