A time lapse video is a long video sped up into a shorter version. Common examples of time lapse videos include moving clouds, sunset, moving traffic and growing plants. Time lapse videos are excellent for posting on video-sharing sites like Instagram, YouTube and so on, as they make for quite awesome viewing. You can create your own visually amazing time lapse video with nothing more than your Android phone. All you need to do is to place your phone in one spot for an extended time period.
To make a time lapse video, you need to place your phone in an undisturbed spot for a long time. Therefore, you might want to use an old phone you don’t use anymore. That way, you wouldn’t have to be without a phone. You’d need a phone with a good camera, obviously. But the most important thing you need is a time lapse app, unless your phone camera already has the feature. In that case, open the camera, switch the camera mode to Time Lapse or Hyper Lapse. However, if your phone does not have this feature, don’t worry. There are several good time lapse apps on the Google Play Store.
Now, to make a time lapse video you need a subject. Anything that moves slowly is a good subject. This could be the movement of the clouds, a building being constructed, the sun setting, or a busy street. You also need a stable place to set your phone. A tripod with a phone mount is fine, but you don’t really have to use one. You can use literally anything to prop up your phone.
Also, some apps will allow you to adjust the frame intervals and speed. This is the amount of time between recorded frames. For short videos, you will need shorter intervals, and for longer videos you’ll need longer intervals. Once you have everything set up, all you need to do is hit Record and wait. For the best results, record for a long time.
