Twitter has implemented a feature that tracks what apps you install on your smartphone and sends the information to their servers. Twitter says, “To help build a more personal Twitter experience for you, we are collecting and occasionally updating the list of apps installed on your mobile device so we can deliver tailored content that you might be interested in.”
Twitter is going to implement this automatically, so if you do not want this data mined by them, you have to opt-out. Here is how to do that:
- Launch the Twitter app on your smartphone
- Select Settings, then your account
- Look for “Tailor Twitter based on my apps”. Uncheck the checkbox next to it.
- If “Tailor Twitter based on my apps” and checkbox isn’t there, the new tracking feature hasn’t been enabled on your account yet. So check back till you see it there.
Note that you have to turn the feature off for each Twitter account you have setup on the app.
