Good news: you can now sign up for, and use, Messenger without a Facebook account. Just like WhatsApp, all you need is a telephone number.
Here’s how it works:
On the Messenger app welcome screen, you will now see an option that says “Not on Facebook?” Select that and sign up with your name, phone number and a photo.
The bad news is that only residents of four countries can use it right away: Canada, the United States, Peru and Venezuela. However, the feature will be rolled out to more countries eventually.
When it is ready for your country, you will get the feature in an app update.
