Huawei has launched the Mate X2 in China as a successor to the Mate X which launched in February of 2019. This foldable device joins the Mate Xs (the second foldable smartphone from Huawei in the X series) and brings an expansive 8” display to the fore, while boasting a different folding mechanism compared to its predecessor. The Huawei Mate X2 launched with a powerful Kirin 9000 chipset under the hood and is available in two RAM configurations.
The dual-SIM (Nano) Huawei Mate X2 launched with the Android 10 OS with MIUI 11 on top. On the outside, it’s got a 6.45-inch OLED display with a 1,160×720 pixels resolution and a 90Hz screen refresh rate. When opened up completely, it unveils an 8” OLED display with a 2,200×2,480 pixels resolution, a 90Hz refresh rate and a 180Hz touch sampling rate.
Under the hood, the Kirin 9000 chipset (which supports 5G technology) keeps this device ticking. It is paired with 8GB of RAM and also offers 512GB of onboard storage.
When we come to the camera department, four rear cameras line up its back panel, with a 50MP primary sensor leading the way. This sensor is accompanied by a 16MP ultra-wide sensor, a 12MP telephoto shooter and an 8MP Super Zoom camera. Up front, the Huawei Mate X2 launched with a 16MP sensor in a hole-punch cutout that is pill-shaped, giving the impression of dual selfie cameras.
Finally, this device packs a 4,500mAh battery with a 55W fast charging rate. It measures 161.8×74.6×14.7mm in its folded state and 161.8×145.8×8.2mm when totally unfolded. It weighs about 295 grams.
The Huawei Mate X2 is expected to sell for $2,789 for its 8GB/256GB model and $2,940 for its higher end 8GB/512GB model. As at the time of this piece, there is no word yet concerning the availability of this device in other regions around the world.
