Xiaomi has a lot of excitement and hype going for it right now in the Nigerian smartphone market and there are those who say a company like Infinix is in trouble. But we have done an Infinix S4 vs Redmi Note 7 comparison and the results don’t exactly tally with that.

If your interest or curiosity is piqued already, come along and have a look at the facts and figures.

Infinix S4 vs Redmi Note 7 Preamble

For this comparison, we have to pair up the different versions of both phones according to pricing. The 64GB storage variant of the S4 costs 65,000, while the 64GB version of the Note 7 costs 67,000. That puts them in the same price bracket.

Also, the 3GB/32GB of the S4 costs 50,000, while the same configuration for the Note 7 costs 58,000, putting them in the same price bracket.

As you can see already, the Infinix S4 is the more affordable in both categories/configurations. I may be missing something, but I keep hearing people talk about how Xiaomi offers more affordable smartphones than the incumbents in the Nigerian market. That does not appear to be true in this case. But let’s not jump ahead.

Let’s get the grey areas out of the way first.

You may be tired of hearing it, but camera specifications are meaningless on their own. And so, unless there is a direct shootout between these two phones, we cannot declare a winner in the photography segment of this Infinix S4 vs Redmi Note 7 comparison.

Also, while on paper, Xiaomi says the Redmi Note 7 supports 18W quick charging, none of the 18W fast chargers we tested it with got results that match. Xiaomi included a 10W charger in the box, pretty much meaning both devices are even in this respect.

Where Infinix S4 has the edge

In terms of memory card support, and RAM, Infinix S4 is at the top of this table. Not only does it have more RAM, it has a dedicated memory card slot, so you do not have to sacrifice your second SIM card in order to use as microSD card. Plus, the S4 costs about 2,000 less than the Redmi –  a small edge for price-sensitive buyers. Picthing the Infinix S4 vs Redmi Note 7, Infinix wins for price.

Where Redmi Note 7 has the edge

The display of the Redmi Note is slightly bigger – if 0.1″ means anything to you. But it also has a higher resolution over the S4’s. The Redmi Note 7’s Snapdraon 660 processor offers slightly better performance, and the Gorilla Glass protection makes it almost indesctructible, as we have seen from our review time.

Infinix S4 vs Redmi Note 7 – 3GB/32GB comparison

It is a good idea to take a quick look at the 3GB/32GB versions of both phones before we reach out conclusions. Everything else is the same as in the higher specc’d models except that they have 3GB RAM and 32GB storage.  The quaestion then is, What do they cost?

The Infinix S4 3GB/32GB sells for ₦50,000, while the Redmi Note 7 32GB+ 3GB costs 58,900.00.

Infinix S4 vs Redmi Note 7: Who wins?

If performance and durability is more important to you, the Redmi Note 7 by Xiaomi is what the doctor ordered. However, if using a memory card and a second SIM together is high up your priority list, and if you want smoother app launching and switching, the Infinix S4 takes the cake.

If you are really trying to squeeze every last naira out of your budget, buying the Infinix S4 will save you about 2,000 for the 64GB storage versions and about 8,000 for the 32GB storage versions. Those are enough differences in prices to buy airtime and to subscribe to a data plan – or have a few meals.

As you can see, there is no clear winner between these two mid-range smartphones. One excels in certain areas, while the other excels in another set of areas. And on all fronts, the Infinix is the more affordable of both phones.

Which begs the question: what is the uproar about Infinix being in trouble because of Xiaomi all about? Hype? Blind excitement? At least, as far as an Infinix S4 vs Redmi Note 7 slug out is concerned, Infinix is holding its own. Xiaomi is not having a walkover here.

  2. The only disruption i see is the prices.. Tecno,Infinix prices dropped a bit since the entrant of Xiaomi and Samsung A series into the midrange backet. Yes Infinix and Tecno are still competitive.

  3. I keep seeing articles on how to stop ads on TECNO and Infinix phones, so it is safe to say, Yes. Which is a bummer. I dislike the idea of ads on my phone. Which is one reason I stay away from TECNO, Infinix and Xiaomi phones for personal use.

And this line from an Infinix S4 review confirms that it does have advertising:

One thing I hate about XOS is the inclusion of intrusive ads. I do not know who thought this is a good idea but I find it annoying.

  4. Well, for me, as long as a phone comes with OTG feature, SD card slot no longer matters. OTG is the future. So, in that regards, Xiaomi is still my preferable choice.

But I thing I really like about Infinix phones is their long lasting battery. If it comes with 4000mAh battery, trust me, it’ll live up to expectation.

Nice review, by the way. Well done sir.

  5. For me I think Infinix S4 still got all I want. The N2000 naira I will be saving on Infinix S4 will definitely fix other things. Thanks for the review sor

  6. Having used a Mediatek device exactly once,I wouldn’t touch any device running the Chipset..

The only thing I see the Infinix being better at is the dedicated Card Slot and the added Gorilla Glass protection on the Redmi is enough to offset the price difference between the two, before we go into the Superior CPU and GPU the Redmi offers..

More consistent and longer software support by Redmi..

USB type C vs Micro USB on the Infinix and the Xiaomi is certainly the better device..
