Apple devices are generally considered intuitive, innovative, revolutionary, even resolutionary. But if you look really closely, you will find a few flaws and at times you wonder why a certain feature was left out and why others were done a certain way. Well, in the world of patents and billion-dollar lawsuits, that discussion is for another article.
I love my iphone but one thing I cannot stand is the cumbersome multitasking tray which doesn’t even offer ‘true’ multitasking. It saves all your recently opened apps in a certain freeze mode so that whenever you’re ready, you can just pick up where you left off. Except, there are times when you wish your expensive device would actually complete the login or open the webpage while in the background.
Another quirk about the multitasking tray is how clumsy it is to close applications especially when you have more than 8 running in the background. You literally have to hold an app icon down for 2 seconds, then start pressing each tiny red button until you’ve cleared all the apps from the multitasking tray. If you had 50 plus apps open, that would easily qualify for some form of 15 minute cardio workout.
So, what’s the solution, you ask? Well, I don’t care to wait for Apple to resolve that in another iOS update. If you have a jailbroken iphone or ipad, head on to Cydia and install ‘cardswitcher’. This brings the palm-pre style multitasking to the iphone with some major advancements. You can either use the card format or the grid format. I’ll let the pictures show u.
It’s easy to use and fun when you throw away the cards and that automatically closes the apps. It’s also very pleasing to the eyes while getting the job done better than the stock iOS method.
For the past 2 weeks I have found it makes multitasking on the iphone significantly sweeter, and if you combine it with ‘backgrounder’, another tweak in cydia, then the apps actually work full time in the background and not in the freeze mode.
Try it out if you have a jailbroken device and let me know your thoughts.
