India is a large country. With a population of 1.252 billion, it is second only to China in the world. About one year ago, the total mobile subscribers in India crossed the 1 billion subscriber mark. One would think that a new operator in such a saturated environment would be at a disadvantage. Reliance Jio is a 4G LTE network that commercially launched services in September, 2016. Jio says it has acquired over 72 million subscriber already.
That is 72 million subscribers in 4 months of operations.
Reliance Jio has been on an aggressive path since commercial launch, enticing new subscribers with freebies, including free unlimited voice and data packages. As a matter of fact, the network is offering free internet till March 2017.
