Celkon Win 400 was recently announced and took the position of most affordable Windows smartphone. Now, it has to share that position with the dual-SIM Lava’s Iris Win 1 (these namings though) which was announced today and will be on sale in two days’ time. Surprisingly, the Iris Win1 has accelerometer, proximity sensor, and ambient light sensor. The iris Win1 costs about N14,000.

The Iris Win 1 matches Celkon Win 400 in price, its display is only 4 inches, but has an edge in performance in that it has 1GB of RAM instead of the latter’s 512MB. Lava is an Indian brand too.

I also believe these naming could be a problem. Telling users before hand that they are buying a Windows Phone (or Windows) device may not be a good idea as some of them may have had bad experience with the previous Windows Phone devices that couldn’t sell.

It would’ve been a whole lot better to just name then anything without that Windows Phone/Windows stigma and let the user probably discover they are using Windows Phone/Windows powered devices after they may have discovered that Windows Phone/Windows is a whole lot better in its present version and quite usable now.

The competitive pricing is one area they can’t go wrong though as that’s long overdue. Windows Phone devices have generally been overpriced before now to the detriment of Nokia and Microsoft.
