Lower Mobile Internet Tariffs Around the Corner

Many of you have asked for it. Apparently, at least one of the four (4) GSM operators has listened (or capitulated, depending). Whatever! The important thing and the good news is that this particular operator will be announcing significantly lower mobile internet tariffs soon.

How soon? A matter of weeks, barring any delays. Of course, for the sake of your sanity, it may be better to assume that there will be a delay. Mobility Nigeria shall not be responsible for any cases of anxiety or related mental/emotional conditions arising from your waiting for the announcement of the new tariff/s.

Anyone wants to guess which network this is? First correct answer wins N500 airtime on any network of choice.

“Anyone wants to guess which network this is? First correct answer wins N500 airtime”

hypothetically, by the way, anyone can use 4 different names, AND predict EACH & ALL of the networks!
how are you going to tell?
all it takes is to be the first to post 4 times..!
unless you can check the ip address. wordpress offers such a facility?

i suggest such offer should be made to registered forum members only…

  2. Ebimobowei

    Its Zain!

  3. And eyebeekay wins! lol. Na GLO. They are yet to officially launch their ALWAYS MICRO package.

  4. chris

Well said. WordPress does check poster’s IP addresses, but even that can be circumvented too.

While registration does not eliminate the possibility of cheating, it does add some measure of verification. I agree with your suggestion.

Sorry guys, but only registered members are eligible. Beyond that, in your profile, ensure that your real name is entered in your profile, even if it is a nickname that you choose to display publicly.

  8. deoladoctor

Its got to be etisalat. They’ve been consistent at giving good value for money.

  9. archie

    It should be glo.

It makes sense doesn’t it guys. This coy has a submarine cable all to itself. It has the longest fiber optic cable network in the country, and its still growing. Just last month glo has been frantically connecting its base stations within and outside Abuja city with fiber. Its network is showing up as 3.5g after its workers fiddle with the cable and the BTS. And for a trivial reason; Glo needs to compensate for keeping its subscribers waiting so long for the cable as launch dates have moved dozens of times.

MTN are not known to be price friendly at all. Its alien to their corporate culture I guess. Etisalat and Zain have no capacity to carry extra data subscribers. If the prices are lowered on these two y’all better be moving off to another network.

  10. That network is surely Glo because their submarine cable launch is eminent.

  11. metamba

    i think it’s glo.
IG, i can see u r a linux fan. How’s ubuntu? Been dualbooting my windows system for about 6 months n i can tell you that it’s the BOMB.

  12. @Kay123: To get ALWAYS MICRO. Text 13 to 127. The package costs N1,000 for 150MB of 24hrs/30days browsing. Cheers πŸ˜‰

  13. Mark

Pls God, dont let it be glo, thier internet and call quality is very bad here in ejigbo, lagos. Imagine not being able to connect for days. I keep hearing static when i call. Their service is just to bad. Pls God let it be etisalat, and may they launch 3g services soonest. AMEN.

  14. @Mark: While I was in Lagos few months back glo call and internet quality was awesome. I hope say na joke u dey joke oh. I was really enjoying their download speeds especially at night

  15. Johnny

Finally things are happening ,i just hope its a reasonable offer and not some crappy value added deal.

    It’s GLO

  16. Ebimobowei

Please what is the state of things? Yomi please tell us, is it glo? My current subscription with Zain is coming to an end on the 28th so I really need to know if it is true. Then please tell us how we can subscribe. I want to be sure before joining glo

  17. Mark

@chukwudi. I wish it was a joke but am SERIOUS. I guess its because ejigbo is not a developed area like v.i, okota and other rich men areas. I called customer care and all they say is they will look into(for over 4months now) make una help me beg them oh cause now am glowing with disappointment.

  18. Afewgoodmen

    My dear guys!

    I choose Glo!

  19. ebunma

    It may be MTN

  20. kay123

    Why the suspence?
If it is glo it would be nice for me cos i won’t have to go around with more than one phone again.
The only problem i had wit glo is that when i used it some months back for browsing it was very slow in my area (Ipaja, Lagos), I hope it’s now better.
    @Udegbunam Chukwudi:

it can never be mtn.that is a company that is very far from giving services at reasonable cost. do you guys remember when they told us per second billing wont be possible for like 3-4yrs then? only to lunch same immediately after glo made the service available.

My guess is glo. a neighbour of mine, their staff, actually told me last weekend that they will be intoducing new data products following the lunch of their glo 1 cable next month.

@mark. i happen to be using glo in your neighbourhood, ejigbo(around kila area) and my experience is a far cry from yours. I download at an average speed of 200kbps – 300kbps. and this can rise to like 500kbps at some nights when download 1gig movie within 40mins.

  31. arumob

I think it is glo. However their services is very poor in Kwale Delta State. In that area Etisalat is the boomb. With just one mast their signal is clearer than other networks with several masts

  32. Azeez Saheed

    I’ll go with glo….

  33. kay123

    It is zain.

  34. Zain? Do they have 3g? Ive used them at almost every spot in port harcourt and get only edge at best.

  35. deoladoctor

…mobilitynigeria shall not be responsible for cases of anxiety/emotional trauma/insanity arising from this….

Its happening already going by all the write ups above. Well, before its gone too far and doctors are on strike in many states, would yomi care to tell us?

Case in point: i change my mind, its not etisalat, its zain, or could it be err.. Glo? Yes, its glo, no wait a minute, mtn has the money to give out freebees so it must be them, i choose mtn, or on the other hand…..

  36. Yomi Adegboye

Well, before its gone too far and doctors are on strike in many states, would yomi care to tell us?

    πŸ˜€

  37. Thanks for the info guys.

  38. bosun99uk

Love to read all comments but 45comments no way, got podcast to watch.

Yes i know i am late to the party.

MTN is too proud to do this and Glo is too comfortable.

It will be Zain or Etisalat.

Ok, i will stick with Etisalat.

  39. tivta

    Yomi. When shall we know?

  40. Ajadi Jamiu Olalekan

Dont waste any more time, Its ETISALAT. Just tried it.
    2.5kobo/kb

  41. Mark

@ajadi. Its not true. Called customer care and he said its still at 15kobo per kilobyte. Pls dont miss lead people. Yomi you caused all these… Tell us once and for all.

  42. Yomi Adegboye

You guys all need to chill. No amount of coercion will make me divulge the information before the official announcement.

That info was shared with me in trust. I won’t betray that trust, regardless of the delay on their part – and the consequent drama and high blood pressure in different quarters πŸ˜€

  43. Keweno

Well, I have learnt not to give myself high blood pressure over such issues. I only hope it’s either MTN or Etisalat because buying a third sim and phone to enjoy cheaper internet is totally out of it. After all I’m doing productive things with my current data with little complaints. If either of this two is not it, then market forces will force them to drop tariffs. Simple!

  44. Mark

@Yomi. Pls at least tell us the reduction in percentage. Like how CHEAP
will it be? Is it worth all this tension and suspence? Help us know if it is worth the wait.

  45. bosun99uk

What Etisalat has just introduced is a special package that gives you 25kb per second to any network after taken a 20naira daily acess charge

  46. Keweno Isibor

@ bosun: same old story it first started with -N-20/day now it’s -N-20. They are just playing with us. Imagine -N-20 off millions of subscribers ….

Still awaiting the internet tariff announcement hope it’s ridiculously cheap like -N-500/giga byte …
    πŸ™‚

  47. bosun99uk

    @Keweno Isibor
What Etisalat is offering is not available from anybody else so let us give them some credit for doing that. 20 naira daily access charge and you can opt in or out anytime.
If i have much calls to make I can opt in for that day and decide not to opt in for other days.

For the Lower Mobile Internet Tariffs a friend of mine just confirmed to me that its GLO.

  48. bosun99uk

    @Yomi

It certainly has to be Glo.

Glo is about to launch another first of a kind. Mobile Internet in Nigeria is about to be revolutionized. Check out this Youtube video from Glo.

  49. Keweno Isibor

@ bosun99uk, I just watched the video on my phone (it was kind of breaking sha), For Adenuga to stick out his head like that it’s serious business. And he said some thing like “… On the eve of our 50th aniversary …”

  50. Ebimobowei

Please what did Adenuga say? I can’t watch the video with my edge connection. Please.

  51. Keweno Isibor

    @ Ebimo
I used an edge connection to watch it with bolt.
Summary of what he said: internet will not be the same in Nigeria, what glo is about to offer will be the first, glo one gives them a massive edge, e-commerce & e-learning with be revolutionized …

  52. Keweno Isibor

I gather MTN and Etisalat are on main one, so let the price war begin …

  53. bosun99uk

    Straight from Adenuga himself:

Today I really feel excited because today we are looking at a major step change in Nigeria I promise you things are never going to be the same again because now the Glo 1 submarine cable has arrived and linked in seamlessly with our 10,000km fiber optics network.

Now is the time when we can provide our country with clearer lines as well as high quality internet bandwidth to any global destination at really affordable prices.

I promise you no one else can do this because no one else has the submarine cable to Europe and on to America connected to its own massive National network. This is the time when we as Nigerians can start to compete with the rest of the world on an equal system.

I thank you for the supporting past and I know I can count on you for the future because this is the time when everything from ecommerce to e-learning can really start to develop here. At the eve of our 50th anniversary as a nation, this is the time when we can really move forward to a road that I for one can’t wait to get to that road, and I look forward to seeing you all there.

  54. Mark

OH NO. What will now happen to my etisalat? Still no glo 3g service here. Wahala dey…

  55. Keweno Isibor

    @bosun, excellent transcribing.

  56. Keweno Isibor

I hope prices will start @ around -N-500/gigabyte with decent connection speeds and BIS subscription slashed by 50% of what currently obtains.
