Following on the heels of Qualcomm’s announcement of the Snapdragon 855 chipset, Mediatek has announced the Helio P90. While the D855 targets the high power, high-end smartphones of 2019, the Mediatek Helio P90 chipset is more suited to upper mid-range devices.
There is a new feature called AI Accelerator built into the P90. The company says this will provide a big boost to AI. There is also now ARcore support, and Face Detection Engine for faster facial recognition.
How many cores does the Mediatek Helio P90 support? 8. That is octa-core, split into two clusters: six Cortex-A55 cores for light duties, supported by two Cortex-A75 cores for heavy tasks. This should translate to good battery performance though you will not get the most powerful performance. Like we said earlier, this is upper mid-range territory.
The graphics processor (GPU) is IMG 9XM-HP8. Mediatek says that it delivers up to 50% more image processing power than Mali-G72 MP3.
The Mediatek Helio P90 also supports Google Lens, AI-aassisted low-light photography, and 480 fps slow-mo videos.
When will we see the first Mediatek Helio P90 smartphones?
The first set of Helio P90 smartphones are expected to hit the stalls sometime in early 2019.
