Microsoft Mobile sold 54% less phones in Q3 2015

It cannot be a surprise to anyone that Microsoft’s mobile phone business hasn’t done too well in recent times. The last proper Lumia flagship hit the market way back in July 2014. As such, there has been no hero phone to champion the cause of Windows Phone in a little while. This is despite an interesting lineup of devices like the Lumias 640, 640 XL, 735 and 830.

While the company’s other businesses are doing very well, only 5.8 million Lumias were sold in third quarter of this year. That is a huge drop from the 9.3 million units sold in the same quarter during the previous year.

Will the 950 and 950XL turn the tide for Microsoft Mobile? Will Windows 10 Mobile be good enough?

  1. In the last quarter Microsoft haven’t released a Windows Phone flagship device – I think either Elroy or Mr Mo commented on this in an article.

So whilst the focus has been on low to mid range devices, they simply aren’t enough to keep things ticking over until the release of the 950 and 950XL. And the delay in releasing these alongside the new W10M isn’t helping.

  2. Can’t say am surprised,no Flagship and endless wait for Windows 10 obviously took its toll on consumers interest..
