The very first pair of Apple “over ear” headphones have been revealed. There are also reports that the iOS 14 preview code shows icons representing these new headphones.
There are two icons: a light one and a dark one, showing the pair of over-ear headphones having a padding on the earcups and headband. The new headphones from Apple may also come in different color shades unlike the characteristic white that is known with the Apple AirPods.
According to reports from 9to5Mac, “these glyphs are used in iOS 14 to represent the unreleased headphones throughout the operating system including Apple’s battery and charging status widget”.
If Apple has any concrete plans to make the new headphones a part of the AirPods family, they could boast some of the best features of true wireless earbuds like the H1 chip which enables the ‘Hey Siri’ and also speedy Bluetooth pairing.
iOS 14 is expected to launch sometime between September and November of 2020 and this could be a pointer to when the new Apple headphones will hit the market.
As at the time of this article, there are still no clear names of this new “over-ear” headphones from Apple but a number of names like the Apple AirPods X and the Apple StudioPods have popped up in certain circles.
It will be interesting to see how users will receive this product, as most iPhone users are already adjusted to the smaller, lighter version of the earbuds.
