Samsung launches 108MP camera sensor in collaboration with Xiaomi

The megapixel race is far from over. It was not too long ago that 48MP sensors appeared in the smartphone world. And we are barely settling into the reality of a 64MP camera sensor, yet Samsung has announced a 108MP sensor for smartphones.

RealMe and Redmi are already on the 64MP camera train. Who will be the first on the 108MP sensor train? Certainly not Samsung themselves. If precedence is reliable, it will be one of the Chinese brands that will snap it up first – Xiaomi.

The new 108MP sensor, Samsung ISOCELL Bright HMX,  is a product of a close collaboration with Chinese smartphone maker, Xiaomi. It is rumoured that the upcoming Xiaomi Mi Mix 4 will be the first smartphone to feature this 108MP camera sensor.

Update: The 108MP camera first appeared in the Xiaomi CC9 Pro AKA Xiaomi Mi Note 10 and Mi Note 10 Pro. It will also be used in the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra.
