Over 10 million Samsung phone users downloaded and installed the Updates For Samsung app from Google Play Store. The app had a 4/5 star rating in the store. Except that the app was not from Samsung, was riddled with adware, and charged for free Samsung software updates.
In other words, the Updates For Samsung app scams people. You do not want to be one of those victims. Do not install it. Thankfully, Google has finally taken down the app after being notified of its existence by Aleksejs Kuprins, a malware analyst at the CSIS Security Group.
How to Download and Install Updates For Samsung Phones
If you own a Samsung smartphone, there is only one authentic way to get OTA software updates for your phone, and it is always found in the Settings menu of your phone. You do not need a 3rd party app to get official updates for Samsung smartphones or any other kind of Android phones actually.
On newer Samsung phones running One UI, go to Settings -> Software update -> Download and install.
Actually, all official OTA updates for Android phones can be found in the Settings of the phones. For stock Android phones, go to Settings -> System -> System update to manually check for updates.
