In a surprise move, US President, Donald Trump, has said he would allow US companies to continue to sell to the Chinese tech giant Huawei.
This is a significant concession to Huawei. How much of a leeway it gives the Chinese company is yet to be seen.
In the meantime, the USA and China have resumed trade talks.
So what kind of goods can US companies sell to Huawei? In the simplest of terms, only goods that are widely available in the market and that do not endanger US national security. Huawei is still on the US Export list, so this is not a revocation of the earlier ban. This also means that Huawei still cannot sell 5G technology, especially infrastructure, to the USA.
