The Nokia 3.1 Plus phone is a budget smartphone with a premium body. We have a unit here at MobilityArena for review and share our first impressions and some photos.

HMD Global’s Nokia-branded smartphones have a good first year in the market and it looks like they will continue to perform well in the market.

Today’s Nokia phones are far different from the previous generation’s Windows-powered devices. Nokia smartphones now run Android OS, and the brand has built a name for itself in offering a pure flavour of the software. So, when you buy a Nokia smartphone, you get pure Android OS. You also get two years of guaranteed software updates.

A distinctive trait of today’s Nokia phones is the more premium build and feel that they offer even in the budget segment. And this is true for the Nokia 3.1 Plus phone.

Launched in October 2018, the phone has a 6-inch FullView display with 18:9 aspect ratio and 720 x 1440 pixels resolution.

There is a dual camera in a centralized vertical strip at the back, directly below which is the fingerprint scanner.

The phone has two variants, one with 2 GB RAM and 16 GB storage, and the other with 3 GB RAM and 32 GB storage. Our review unit is the former.

As far as processing power goes, the Nokia 3.1 Plus phone is powered by a Mediatek MT6762 Helio P22 chipset with 8 cores and clocked at a maximum of 2.0 GHz. The battery capacity is a decent 3500 mAh.

Software-wise, it runs Android 8.1 Oreo, with a planned update to Android Pie in the works.

First Impressions of the Nokia 3.1 Plus phone

When we picked it up, we immediately notice that it has a bit of a heft to it. So we checked, and it weighs in at 180 g. That is just 9 g lighter than Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus. So, yes; we were right about that heft. It feels like traditional Nokia phones – devices that are built like tanks and capable of taking a decent beating without falling apart.

We were immediately impressed with the machined aluminium body and matte finish. Our review unit is grey, a very understated colour fit for all occasions. It is a phone that you will be happy to be seen with.
