Today, the London-based company called Nothing held an event to announce their plans and new products. The most anticipated announcement was about the Nothing Phone. It is an odd name, but we will get used to it.

About Nothing Phone 1

About Nothing Phone 1

To be honest and cut straight to the chase, the event revealed nothing about the hardware of the phone. Absolutely nothing. We didn’t get to see the design or hear of any specifications about it. The presentation did say that the name of this first model is Nothing Phone 1.

Besides that, one thing we already knew from previous statements is that the phone will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. Nothing founder, Carl Pei says his smartphone will be “the most compelling alternative to Apple’s ecosystem”. Clearly, Nothing is after Apple. But we have heard similar before, and it didn’t amount to much.

About Nothing OS

Almost every Android phone maker wants a custom skin to differentiate their product from those of the competition, and Nothing is taking that route too. Their custom skin used in the Nothing phone goes by the name, Nothing OS. The company says it will be ‘Fast & Smooth’. If we got a dollar for each time a brand has sold that to us, we’d be rich. For now, we wait to see how fast and smooth it is.

Nothing OS will likely be heavily customised, if statements from the event are anything to go by, though there will be zero bloatware; Nothing says there will be no duplicate apps. The default launcher built into the OS is Nothing Launcher, and the company says it will be available for download from Google Play Store in April.

Software Updates for Nothing Phone

Software updates have become a big deal in the smartphone world. Nothing is promising 3 years of major Android updates and 4 years of monthly security patches.

Nothing Phone 1 Release Date

When is Nothing Phone 1 coming out? Expect it in the summer of 2022. That is, anytime from June through August. We shall keep fingers crossed that the UK-based company will wow us.
