Official Symbian^3 IM App is Here – Finally!

At last, we new age Symbian users get an official instant messaging app. I personally have been waiting for this for ages. IM for Nokia gives you Yahoo Messenger, Google Talk, Windows Live Messenger, MySpace and Ovi Chat in one application. There’s also integration with your phone’s Contacts application, so you can see your contact’s IM status when browsing through the Contacts app.

I have downloaded and installed IM for Nokia, and hope to bring you a review as soon as possible. The first impressions I am getting are excellent though. Looks like my Nokia E7 just got a lot better.

Download to your phone from the Ovi Store (search for “IM for Nokia”). Here’s the direct web link for the Chat application for your Symbian^3 phone:

Thank God, after all these while, but wait, no facebook chat?

@Yomi, does it mean Symbian ^1 isn’t supported? No Nokia IM for Symbian ^1?

So why am I being compelled to buy a Symbian^3 phone? It appears official Nokia support for series 60 has stopped. I now absolutely have to jump to the Symbian^3 Bandwagon.

No chat apps for symbian 3, you say? Nimbuzz chat has been around for symbian 3 for more than 5 months now! It combines yahoo, facebook, google, twitter and others, sync with your contacts and tell you immediately which of your phone’s contact is using nimbuzz chat so you can link with them. You can send instant pictures, sounds, and make phone calls via the internet (hey, make sure you are on a Wifi when you do this!). Try it out and you will never drop your phone for more than a minute!

Just downloaded it on to my C7. Still giving it a spin, though. No glitches so far.

Who exactly said there had been no chat apps for Symbian3? Perhaps you missed the ‘official’ in the story?

Nimbuzz works great for me and I wouldn’t consider using anything uses far less data than another multi-protocol messenger application like ebuddy, palringo, shmessenger, fring. And supports practically all instant messenger service out there…

For everyone out there trying out the new Ovi chat app, should check to see if it supports jabber or xmpp protocol, if it does u can also have ur Facebook chat on it too.. Just google jabber and Facebook and follow the instructions and you are good to go
