Nokia’s older range of BelleOS smartphones are getting an update at the moment. Named “Belle Refresh”, the update is available for Nokia N8, Nokia E7, Nokia C7, Nokia C6-01, Nokia X7 and Nokia Oro with version number 111.040.1511. Nokia say that the E6, version number 111.140.0058, will follow still this week, and Nokia 500 updates will start to be launched within the next few weeks.
This update again brings new features to Symbian/Belle smartphones, for example:
- a new browser with HTML5 web apps support,
- a new set of homescreen widgets
- previously released Microsoft Office Mobile App
- Nokia Maps Suite 2.0
- Nokia N8 will have some extra apps for imaging
- Social 1.5
- Improved music player
- Toggles
Nokia also warn that some apps may not work due to compatibility issues, and you may need to contact your local Nokia Care support or the respective App developer to enquire about the compatibility.
I don’t have any BelleOS smartphone in my collection at this time, so I can’t give a first-hand account. However, if you have one, do share your experience with the update as soon as you get it on your device.
I went through a list of the changes and noticed I already had most of them on my N8 before I sold the device, my phone was hacked already so it was easy to get the new toggles from the 808 into it.
it’s a good thing to see Nokia is still showing commitment to it’s aging devices.
At last
it’s basically the same features that were already available in the belle FP1 that was ported for it, apart from the New route planning feature in Nokia maps.
This is probably going to be the last offical firmware for the venerable N8. Love this phone to bits and this firmware is only going to make it better. Got scared for a while and thought Nokia had abandoned us. Good going Nokia/Accenture.
