Opera Max to rescue Android users from huge data bills

Opera_Max-phone

Android users know firsthand how their devices are data guzzlers. In many cases, Android users have eyed BlackBerry users with envy with regards the low-cost data tariffs they enjoy. Google may not have done anything till date to alleviate this, but Opera has stepped into the arena to attempt to save Android users from huge mobile data bills.

Opera Max is a free app that provides up to 50% data savings from compressing video, images and text on almost every app on your phone. Yes; not just the browser, but almost every app. The app only provides savings for non-encrypted data usage. Data cannot be saved on any app that uses encryption e.g. Facebook.

Opera Max is currently in beta and is available for download from Google Play.

Tried to download on Google play but not
    available in my country Nigeria.

You will likely be able to get the app from the Wild… but it won’t matter.. The service is one available in the United States and Western Europe, for now..

    The Opera Blog says

Opera Max won’t work if you’re outside the United States

Andover that the app will be free ONLY during beta testing period.

If it’s a one_off app purchase, that would be a good thing, but I suspect it would be a subscription based service..

    I can’t wait.

No; I an wait, and I bet it would do serious damage to the bottom line of data providers worldwide… Nigeria inclusive.. Imagine being able to cut my data bills for half (at least)….

And the noise about the BlackBerry Supremacy regarding data.. will be annihilated, finally, forever…

Did the author even try to install and use this first before posting this piece? Would have saved us the efforts…

Good point Kayode. The ratings from what I’ve read don’t sound too encouraging. Apparently there’s a queue for the app so good luck if you get it,

@Noni its not a browser app but a vpn service that proxies all your data (xcpt https through opera server) so it works in any app. Another option that does work in Nigeria is Onavo extend, though people re worried if they could trust this service since onavo has been bought over by Facebook. Note however dat the onavo service is free
