Photos: Have a look at Big Red running Windows Phone 8.1

Well, more accurately, Windows Phone 8.1 developer preview is now live. But that’s a technicality. It is Windows Phone 8.1 proper, disguised as a preview for developers. Weeks ago, I signed up as a Windows Phone developer and installed and setup the Preview for Developers app. That’s how to get Windows Phone 8.1 on your Lumia today.

If you are interested, what you get is the full Windows Phone 8.1 update. Whenever Nokia releases its own customised version of 8.1, you will get that too without any issues. Nothing to worry about.

Enjoy the following screenshots of Windows Phone 8.1 running on my Lumia 1520, Big Red:

Windows Phone feels so different. Version 8.1 certainly brings a lot to the platform. I have tried out the new WordFlow keyboard and text entry via swiping is smooth and efficient. There’s the new Data Sense, Screen Projection, Settings Symnchronisation (allowing you synchronise your settings across multiple devices), Driving Mode, as well as Cortana, the new voice assistant.

Expect detailed feature/review articles on Windows Phone 8.1 from me as I dive into using it. If you have questions, you are welcome to drop them below. Cheers.

      3rd World Techie,

I was soon reminded that Cortana was available for the US only. If you change your region to “United States”, you will get it, but I’m not sure I want to do that.

You’ll get Cortana if you set both your region and your language to “English (United States)”.

Mine was set to “English (United Kingdom)”. Had to change it.
