What happens when you stack up the cameras of the Nokia 808 PureView (2012), Nokia Lumia 1020 (2013), and Microsft Lumia 950 XL (2015) up against the camera of Google’s Pixel XL phone? That is exactly what Steve Litchfield has done and the results may or may not surprise you, depending on where you stand. Steve’s camera shootouts are the most detailed and most incisive around. His PureView versus Pixel shootout is very intriguing.

Google’s Pixel twins are being hailed as the best cameraphones on the market. But a detailed photoshoot tells a different story. The dust cleared to reveal that Nokia’s lineup of champion cameraphones are all ahead of the Pixel.
PureView versus Pixel Results
The final results thrown up are as follows:
- Nokia Lumia 1020: 72pts
- Nokia 808: 68pts
- Lumia 950 XL: 63pts
- Google Pixel XL: 59pts
The three-year old Lumia 1020 and the four-year old Nokia 808 are still kicking ass. I have also maintained that the Lumia 950 is one of the best cameraphones around till date, and Steve’s shootout confirms that. The 950 kicked the Google Pixel’s ass too.
Not that the Pixel is a pushover. It is a great cameraphone. It just isn’t the best yet. But do not take my word for it. Steve has all the interesting details.
