Come April 20, 2018, Opera VPN will be retired. Both Android and iOS versions of the app will be shut down permanently. This follows on the heels of Opera Max being shut down in 2017 and then taken up and rebranded by Samsung in February 2018.
Free users of the Opera VPN app have the option to take up an 80% discount on SurfEasy Total VPN, while Opera Gold subscribers can migrate to SurfEasy Ultra VPN and enjoy a year’s free subscription.
Users can migrate right from within the app.
Other Opera VPN Alternatives
There are a number of alternative VPN apps available in the Play Store and iOS Store. You can check out some of the best Android VPN apps. Rocket VPN is an alternative that gives you 500MB free bandwidth monthly, with the option to get unlimited bandwidth for a small fee.
And with this announcement, Opera has fully exited the VPN market to keep its focus on mobile web browsers.
