I recently got the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 and I will be writing a proper review of the quad core 10.1 inch S-Pen packing tablet but for now here are some unboxing pictures.

A full review is already in the works along with a barrage of app recommendations and tips. Stay tuned!

  1. Currently own a 16gb white version. Waiting for jelly bean ipdate b4 i root. My productivity Levels have soared to astronomical levels. My laptop has got cobwebs All over it. Games, music, word editing, remote desktop, email handling, just name it. Samsung rocks.

  2. @Chinedu – Indeed Samsung rocks. I am amazed at the amount of productivity this tablet has afforded me. My oh so powerful laptop that I never thought could take the backseat has indeed started collecting dust. I flashed jellybean by downloading and flashing the 1gb file with odin.

  3. What region is urs? Mine is middle east. ( XWALG7) still waiting for d official jelly bean update Before I root

  4. The region does not matter as u can switch to the German version by first flashing with a German ics version and then upgrading to jb.

  5. The jellybean premium suit just takes the tab to a whole new level. About upgrading my wife’s original samsung galaxy tab 10.1 to this beast. But looking at the new chipsets (8 processors) being developed by samsung, one would suggest the best is yet to come.

  6. @SpazyZuma – True that!, in fact i just share my WiFi from my PC and i do most of my tasks from the tablet.
@Belushi – The Premium suite is just crazy, i flashed JB 4.1.2 and i must say multi-window has now become better

  7. Loving the GNote Series,

and with the Samsung Exynos 5 Octa chipset recently announced at CES which brings 8 core processor that distribute work load among each other. 4Cortex-A15 cores ensure incredible performance while 4low-power Cortex-A7s kicks in for less demanding tasks & save battery power.

I cant imagine how useful the next Gen devices will be.

    Good Work Sammy.

  8. “looking at the new chipsets (8 processors) being developed by samsung, one would suggest the best is yet to come”.

With Android (mobile tech in general) the best is always yet to come.

Would rather get a Nexus 10 with gsm capability than a tab from any manufacturer (of course I would grab it in a less than a heartbeat if given). Used a samsung galaxy tab 2 10.1 and 7.0 recently. The layers on it was just repugnant

*cradles Nexus tab and softly sings Mariah Carey’s Always be my baby”

PS I’ve a terrible voice, hope the tab can’t hear *chuckles*

  9. Galaxy note 10.1 is an amazing device that i would love to acquire, but haven’t seen any above 16gb in nigeria.

  10. It has Micro SD and support up to 64GB.
it’s crazy that this device has full GSM support

  11. This dude is more productive than Nexus 10. And what’s more, it has micro SD card slot and full GSM functionality.

  12. @belushi – Yes but even when the 3G version of the Nexus 10 is released i doubt if it will have call functionality. It might just be data only

@bosun99uk – Between 95-97k depending on your location

  13. I know it has Micro SD and support up to 64GB.But i’m talking about internal memory,i have not seen any with 32GB or 64GB internal memory in Nigeria.

  14. @emmanuel Rooted and installed clockworkmod. Still on stock ICS cos i am inclined to wait for JB OTA update. But do you think i will have issues updating over the air? Or do i have to install stock recovery b4 it works?

  15. @Anonymous – Yeah, I haven’t too. The 16gb goes for 95-97/100k so i’m guessing the 64gb woulda gone for a lot more hence the refusal of major retailers importing it.

  16. @Chinedu – The complete 4.1.2 JB ROM that i downloaded was 1.08GB. OTA should clock in around 400MB, a strong connection is recommended if you are updating via OTA

  17. @emmanuel, u didnt answer my question. I do have a strong connection. My issue is dat do i need to revert to stock recovery b4 i apply OTA update, or i can still do it with clockwork mod recovery

  18. @emmanuel but i hope reverting to stock recovery wont affect my root. Normally i do hide my root when the need arises such as when i want to run some apps like my dstv drifta app which does not work on roored devices.

  19. @austine on your SUPERSU settings tab, you will see an option under superuser that says superuser enabled. Untick the checkbox to temporarily hide your root. Tick it back to restore. Unfortunately i cant upload screenshots here. So check my twitter handle @mkbiletipsng so that you can view a screenshot of the steps

  20. @ Uchu Chinedu
Thank you. I’m sure I’ll be able to handle that. I just have never gone through superuser setting

  21. Sad that we seem not to pay attention to old articles, forgetting that they should become reference points for nigerian mobile enthusiasts who are still trying to find their feet. We all cant spend hours sifting thru xda but if the more experienced ones among us with years of experience chip in every now and then, we stand to contribute our widows mite to the development of our technology sector by stimulating interest.

I finally managed to restore back to stock recovery by simply flashing the appropriate stock recovery file through odin.
Had a few issues with wifi for a couple of minutes but it just sor of cleared itself. Patiently waiting for jelly bean update OTA. However if my patience runs out im just gonna grab a german jelly bean file and flash 🙂

  22. I am very much ineterested in this tablet. My main need is to read ebooks and take notes ,and study /practice anatomical drawings (in medicine). Do you think it can serve this purposes? By the way u have a nice site here!

  23. Emmanuel, please try to respiond to our comments and enquiries . There have been these bad reviews flying around that the samsung n8000 is bad and ages quickly and the inly good thing about it is the reviews-pen ( you can check. Android police online for this) and that it scratches easily.what has been your own experience?

  24. @Wale – Sorry for the late response, i’ve been very busy in school lately and i live in a different time zone so i do not catch the comments quickly. As to your questions yes the Note 10.1 is a perfect fit for Notes, reading and drawing. The only downside is the resolution which is not up to par with what the competition offers and sometimes you can see individual pixels on the screen. Apart from that it is an awesome tablet with no lag whatsoever

  25. Hi
Just wondering how to write directly on emails using the s pen.I mean how to make commments directly on received mails and send them back.
Also wich app do you recommend for signibg e-documents instead of printing, signing and scanning.

  26. @Malosn

I have heard people saying you can do a snapshot, comment on it and insert it into your own e-mail.

Or perhaps there could be an easier way.

  27. @EyeBeeKay : Thank for the hint, it worked sleamlessly at the first attempt.
I was also wondering about the security side of signing electronically and ended up adding always the d-date to the signature to be sure that someone “will not be able” to photoshop it.

@bosun99uk: then you should have to make it again pdf before sending back. I think that EyeBeeKay’s method is quicker.

Thank You all for your support!

  28. @ all in the house : Please is it possible to open two pdf files ( ebooks) simultaneously and compare such when yu compare different anatomical books to locate body parts and annotate diagrams side by side in the two split windows and is the 32 gig size edition now in nigeria.

  29. Please, urgent response is sought for my earlier enquiry as the main purpose for this tablet is more of reading ebooks.

  30. Emanuel and others don’t get tired of our questions .Please, urgent response is sought for my earlier enquiry as the main purpose of trying to acquire this tablet is more of reading ebooks.

  31. @eyebeekay . The rephrasal : can I read two books that are displayed sided by side (e.g pdf format) at the same time so I can compare and contrast diagrams ( for the purpose of clarity ) as my work involves a lot of diagrams .Or compare it to this scenario where by you can read 2 pdf ebook on a laptop simply by resizing the window so you can look @ book ‘A’ content and compare it with book ‘B’content; Or better still just like in real life u put 2 books side by side to compare a particular figure or diagram( in it’s content). Can it be done on the samsung note 10.1 . Thank you.

  32. @ wale, now the question is clear.

with Samsung Galaxy Note II allowing you run two apps simultaneously in tiled windows., the problem should be resolvable.

    my suggestion is,

have two apps that can handle “pdf” running simultaneously (QuicklOffice & Adobe Reader)
, then load the corresponding FPDF,s you want to compare -into each.

if you can have multiple instances of the same app running on the GN. II,, or a PDFreader that can open multiple docs, all the better. but i doubt those two are possible

  33. @wale:you can also copy/past the two areas and export them to s-note.you can even comment them by handwriting and save it for the future.
By”copy/past” i mean pushing continiously the button the s-pen then “rounding” around the area you want to copy; the Gnote will automatically propose you to share it with another app (s-note).
    Makhtar Lo

  34. I believe opening multiple apps at a time is possible on the Samsung Galaxy Note after the Premium Suite upgrade.

  35. @bosun99uk:multiple windows is only available on some native apps (snote, calculator, phone….)
