Here are some signs of a faulty exhaust manifold gasket

Posted by

The exhaust manifold is one of a series of metal components which are responsible for collecting exhaust gases and transferring them to the exhaust for expulsion from the tailpipe. These components are bolted to the engine cylinder head and are sealed using a gasket known as the exhaust manifold gasket. It is important that the manifold gasket of your engine works properly, otherwise it could lead to serious problems for your vehicle. Here are some signs that mean that your exhaust manifold gasket is faulty:

This is one of the first symptoms of a malfunctioning exhaust manifold gasket. If the manifold gasket fails, it causes an exhaust leak that sounds like a hissing or tapping noise. This sound can usually be heard during a cold start or during acceleration.

Engine performance is another issue when an engine manifold gasket fails. When this happens, the exhaust leak leads to performance issues such as a decrease in power, acceleration and even fuel efficiency. At first, the performance might not noticeably decrease, but over time it will if it is not addressed.exhaust manifold gasket

Another symptom of a potential problem with the exhaust manifold gasket is a burning smell from the engine bay. If the gasket fails and leaks near any plastic components of the engine, or engine wiring, the heat from the exhaust gases might cause the components to burn up. This would result in a strong burning smell. The smell may sometimes be accompanied by a faint smoke. Any sort of burning smells should be checked out as soon as possible to ensure that they do not constitute a potential safety hazard.

If your car engine is unusually noisy, experiencing performance issues, or giving off a burning smell, you should check the manifold gasket, and possibly replace it.

The above are key ways to discover whether or not you have a faulty exhaust manifold gasket. Hopefully, you can get it fixed fast enough to avoid bigger problems.

Happy motoring.
