skype symbianSkype has announced an update to the Symbian version of their mobile app. This update support for the new Symbian phones, including the Nokia N8, C7 and E5 – with a more refined user interface, among other improvements.

The update also contains a number of interface improvements, making it easier to add contacts, navigate, add a photo to your profile and set your mood message.

To download, visit skype.com/m from your mobile. You can also access a full list of compatible phones.

I have been looking forward to this release, as a Skype app for the new Symbian devices had not been available till now. I will download the app later in the day and give it a spin. I really am glad about this development.

  1. Somehow, i have never been able to get Skype to work on my Nokia 5800. The issue is always the lack of connection.
Besides, there is the issue of the ‘high’ memory usage. (high for a Nokia 5800:) that is).

Nimbzz is a viable alterative that works for me.

    The functions are very similar..

If you wish to use Nimbuzz free call facility, you should have a ”limitless’ data plan – otherwise it would not be economical..

  2. Interesting.

Eyebeekay, is Nimbzz as popular as Skype or is there interoperability between both platform users? as you have in PingChat among BB and iOS users? Otherwise your choice of Friends for VOIP would be abysmally low!

  3. @Yomi
is this the same skype that made your N8 to frezz, if yes, lets hope they release another update soon cos skype is a good app to have.

  4. If this is the same version that is wreaking havoc to Noki’s flagship phone, I advice every other Symbian user to steer clear until we have a more stable version!

Why Skype should bring this bug infested version to Symbian beats me! Skype on my ios Device works impecaably!! COuldn’t have asked for a better app! I hope Skype inc is aware. And I hope they fix the Symbian Skype bug soonest!

  5. I have since uninstalled this version of Skype from my N8 and now have stability back. Skype needs to fix this – and quick. I’ve got active Skype contacts now and need mobile access to the service.
