Symbian^3 devices get v25 firmware update

A minor firmware update is now available for Symbian^3 smartphones.

It is reported to be mostly performance-enhancing and brings no visual changes. If you own a Symbian^3 smartphone, launch the Software Update app on your phone to see if the update is available for you yet.

My N8 is already running Belle, so I am wondering if I will get this? So far, the update app tells me my N8-00 is already fully up-to-date.

Do let us know when you get the update on your phones and share if you notice any difference in performance.

  1. Yes, got the update yesterday it’s about 2mb. I really don’t get Nokias idea of stuffing my C: memory anytime there’s an update. Since the symbian Anna update my phone has been battling memory issues most especially when I launch the camera it shows a memory full message & closes all open apps. Thought Nokia is the crowned king of multi tasking, stuff ain’t funny cause it makes the phone look old school.

  2. Just realised it wasn’t the firmware update I got it was Nokias server pushing Microsoft communication app back to my phone after I uninstalled it from my C: memory last week.

And you forgot the hype of good or rather best resource management. That’s probably true when the other elements that help to burden the device and OS resources are lacking not now Symbian is beginning to imitate leaders in look and feel. It doesn’t hold anymore.

I doubt if your assertion is true. My N8 is running Belle unofficially, yet I have not run into one single memory error since I flashed it. I run as many as 15 apps at the same time and no errors. I have 58.2 MB free on drive C.

N8 running Belle is fast and generally smooth. There is some slow down when several heavy apps run side-by-side, but apart from that, Belle seems to take resource management a notch higher inspire of the fluid UI.

Was that really my assertion? Just drawing inference from people who have had a taste of the Symbian/Nokia new look. I’ve read a couple of comments from frustrated users online already.

unfortunately, Nokia wouldn’t be producing new devices running Anna and Belle so we see if they are going to stick with their usual 256MB of RAM and sub-600MHz processor in the name of good resource management.

  6. Well, I guess I’ll have to wait for the Belle update to see if the memory issue gets sorted cos it’s annoying on Anna and I have 91 mb C: memory left.

  7. so far the only thing I’ve really noticed after the update is that my outlook e-mails get delivered faster than before, sometimes before I receive it in my desktop inbox
