TECNO Spark 2 with Android 8.1 Oreo Go Edition

The TECNO Spark2 is the upgrade to the original TECNO Spark, though those familiar with the devices will argue that there isn’t much of an upgrade. TECNO Spark 2 gets a bigger display – now 6 inches, and a bigger battery, but it retains the 1GB RAM and 16GB internal storage of its predecessor. And then, it has Face unlock.

Where there is an upgrade – and hopefully leading to better performance – is the software. TECNO Spark 2 runs Android 8 Oreo Go Edition. If you are not already familiar with the terminology, “Go Edition” means the software is optimised for budget smartphones with low resources.

Does that mean the phone runs pure Android OS and will get software updates from Google? No; it does not run pure Android OS, which is the best kind of Android for low-end smartphones. There is a layer of HiOS on it. As for software updates, we do not have an official confirmation of that.

Note that there is a TECNO Spark 2GB RAM variant that offers better multi-tasking and performance. That is the one to buy, if you can shell out the extra bucks.

I don’t see this as an upgrade at all, an upgrade should be a 2GB RAM or more. An heavy Internet users don’t need a device like this.

      Araoye,

That isn’t quite how it works. An upgrade comes in different shades. Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S9, for example both have 4GB RAM, yet the S9 is an upgrade to the S8 – better camera, newer features, newer software, etc.

Spark 2 has newer and much better software, and even a newer, more capable processor, among other improvements. It still is an upgrade.
