Waze is one of the most popular driving apps around. This is because it selects the best route for your trip, based on distance and road conditions, thanks to the information provided by its community. Waze allows you to avoid unexpected traffic jams and save you time. Here are 5 tips on how to use Waze:
CHOOSE THE BEST ROUTE
The app automatically gives you the shortest journey time, based on its calculations (road, traffic, road works etc). This means that the app can sometimes suggest a longer route in terms of distance but it will be a shorter journey time. The app also allows you to choose your route among several options. This option can be quite useful. To try this option out, when entering a destination, don’t accept the first proposed route. Instead, click on Routes and check out the alternative routes.
CHANGE THE VOICE
The app allows you to change the default voice, with some quite funny options. Waze also allows you to record your own voice or that of a friend for an even more personalized driving experience. You can also change the language. To do all of this, go to Settings > Sound & Voice.
AVOID SPEEDING FINES
Waze helps you abide by the Highway Code, too. It displays the speed at which you are driving, and when you exceed the speed limit, you get a warning. You can opt for an audible warning when you exceed the authorized speed limit by 5%, 10%, 15% and so on, or 5 km/h, 10km/h, 15km/h. To set it up, go to Settings > Speedometer > When to show alert
SYNCHRONIZE YOUR CALENDAR
Waze is particularly used by professionals on the road and people who regularly their car in a professional setting. If the address of your next appointment is in your calendar, Waze can read this information (if you enable it) to provide you with the best route, so you don’t have to rewrite the address in the app. Go to Settings > Calendar to set it up.
SYNC YOUR CONTACTS
Similarly, the app allows you to sync your contacts with the app. you can then click on your friend’s name to go to their home, and also send them an estimated time of arrival (ETA). To set it up, go to Settings > Account & Login, then tap on Phone Number. Enter your phone number and the validation code sent to you by text. Then tap on Friends in the lower right corner and select Allow Access to Contacts.
