Your WhatsApp chat history is stored in your phone memory. Therefore, when you change your phone, you will not see your old chats. This is sad, especially if you have really important information in your chats. However, you can transfer WhatsApp messages from one device to another. Here’s how to do it.
- Create a backup on your old phone: For Android, go to Settings>Chat>Save Conversations. For iPhone, go to Settings>Chats>Copy chats (this syncs your chats with iCloud). For Blackberry, go to Settings>Setup Media>message History. For Windows Phone, go to Settings>Backup.
- Copy the backup to your PC: On Android, the file is sdcard/WhatsApp/Databases/msgstore.db.crypt. On iPhone it is net.whatsapp.WhatsApp/Documents/ChatStorage.sqlite. On Blackberry, it is sdcard/databases/WhatsApp/mesagestore.db. On Windows Phone, it is sdcard/WhatsApp/WinPhoneBackup.
- Connect your new phone to your PC and move the backup to your SD card. This will transfer WhatsApp messages to your new phone.
- When you run WhatsApp for the first time, it will search for chat histories. Note that you must copy the backup to your phone before running WhatsApp for the first time.
