Sometimes you want to do two things on your smartphone at the same time. The good news is that you can. Here is how to use split screen on Android phones.
Have you ever felt the need to do something else while doing one thing on your smartphone? There are several ways to achieve this if you want to. This includes splitting your screen by creating a new window, so you can view two apps side-by-side on your screen.
However, not all phones can do this naturally. Google introduced Split Screen on Android in 2016 with Android 7.0 Nougat. If you use an older Android phone, you will need to download and install a 3rd party app. We will examine how to create split screen on Android in supported phones, as well as how to do it using Split-Screen Creator.
How to use split screen on Android on supported phones
If you own an Android phone running Nougat or newer, the ability to use multiple windows is built in and you may not need a 3rd party app. Note though that not all apps support this. Also note that individual manufacturers often implement their own custom way of creating multiple windows on their phones.
The guide provides the generic way to do it. If it doesn’t work this way on your phone, your phone manufacturer has customised it and you need to find out how.
To use split screen mode, open the recent apps or multitasking menu. If you look closely at the apps in that menu, you will notice that some of them have a small icon consisting of two vertical small boxes. The apps with that icon on them support split screen mode.
Select the first app you want to use and it will take up the upper half of the display. The bottom half will display other aps that you can use in Split Screen mode. Select one and it will fill the space. You are ready to multi-task with two windows on your phone screen.

Now, there a few drawbacks to this app. When you launch this app, the launcher icon is still visible. To remove this, you need to upgrade to the pro version. Also, Split-Screen Creator does its job by creating widgets, and there is also a widget to take you to the settings screen where you can hide it if you wish.
To get started, you will need to add a widget on an open space in the Home screen. This will open a screen where you select the apps you want to make shortcuts for. Here you will find that if an app does not support it, Split-Screen Creator will not be able to create a shortcut for it. Thus, you need to have apps that support the multi-window function before you can create a split screen.
Even then, the app is quite simple to use. Reportedly, you can even use the app to launch a multi-window mode shortcut for app and system shortcuts. Therefore, if you want to create a split-screen setup of launching the Chrome app, for example, and a shortcut that takes you to a specific setting on your phone, you can make it happen.
There’s another caveat. This app only works on supported launchers. However, it is unclear which launchers it supports, so you will have to find out if your launcher supports it. You can find this app on the Google Play Store. Finally, bear in mind that this app will need Android Nougat installed in order to run.
That’s it. Now you know how to use split screen on Android smartphones and tablets.
