Jesse Oguntimehin (or just Jesse Oguns) is a gadget enthusiast and prolific mobile reviewer who is well known around here. The Nokia Lumia 1020 is a 2012 smartphone with a 41 megapixel camera and Xenon flash. When Someone like Jesse who cycles through lots of phones goes out to buy his third Nokia Lumia 1020 3 years after its release, there has to be something to it. We couldn’t resist buzzing him up to ask him a few questions about his romance with Windows Phone OS and the Lumia 1020 specifically.
You have gone out to buy another Lumia 1020 to replace the other one you gave out. What was your primary motivation for this purchase?
Jesse: I find it has the best camera in any smartphone that I have ever owned. I have owned and used the iPhone 5s, Samsung GALAXY S5, BlackBerry Passport, HTC One M8 and Huawei Ascend P7. None of them match the power of the Nokia Lumia 1020. I have waited for the 1020 successor, but it has been too long in coming. I went ahead and bought this from Etisalat Nigeria, as they have it on special offer.
How were you first introduced to Windows Phone?
Jesse: I first saw Windows Phone 7 on the HTC D7. I only played with it briefly. It had no copy and paste then and it was pretty young. My personal first Windows Phone was the Nokia Lumia 920. It was a gift to me from Nokia in early 2013. While I enjoyed using the camera, my primary phone and first love then was the iPhone 5.
Which Windows Phone smartphones have you owned till date?
Jesse: I have owned HTC 8X, Nokia Lumia 920, Nokia Lumia 925, Nokia Lumia 1020 (3 times), Nokia Lumia 1520, Nokia Lumia 630, and Nokia Lumia 535.
Wow! You have owned all these, and the Lumia 1020 thrice! What is it about Windows Phone that is so compelling enough to bring you back to it again and again?
Jesse: It’s the camera first, and the fact that I am more productive when using either a BlackBerry or a Windows Phone. Emails, Calendar, Text Messages work better for me. I have also seen Windows 10 in action. I like where Microsoft is going and I have been a firm believer in the platform since Windows Phone 8.1 was released.
Will you consider yourself a Windows Phone fanboy?
Jesse: No; I am not a Windows Phone fan boy. But I am a believer in the trajectory of the operating system. The growth of the OS functionality has impressed me. I am not a fan boy of any operating system or device, but I lean towards Apple’s iPhone most of the time. My last iPhone was the iPhone 5s. It has been months since I last got myself an iPhone. I still want to get an iPhone 6 though because Apple makes me go “Oh; la la la!!”
That’s a wrap, guys! You’ve heard from Jesse himself.
