Why Mister Mo will take Lumia 920 over iPhone 5

iPhone5-Lumia920

Details of the iPhone5 are now out and we can do some comparing. It is no secret that I am a sucker for simplicity and minimalism in all things. As such, Windows Phone’s minimalist user interface floats my boat to no end. Add to that the compelling features that the Nokia Lumia 920 packs, and it is no wonder that I am eyeing that device.

The question now is whether or not it is a match for the Lumia 920 in my books. I have done a comparison and the result is that I prefer Lumia920 over iPhone5. Here are the reasons why I will pick the Lumia over the iPhone.

  1. While both iOS and WP are restrictive, WP8 is the less restrictive of the two platforms
  2. WP8 has the more elegant UI of the two
  3. Lumia 920 has got a much better camera with PureView texchnology
  4. Lumia 920 has got a much larger and better display. iPhone 5 has 640 x 1136 pixels, 4.0 inches (326 ppi pixel density), while Lumia 920 has 768 x 1280 pixels, 4.5 inches (332 ppi pixel density) plus better real-life performance
  5. The Lumia gives me Nokia’s excellent Maps services

That’s my take: I am convinced that the Lumia is the better of the two devices, barring the fact that iOS has a greater number of apps than WP. That factor is no biggie, because WP has all the apps I need anyway. iOS only gives more options. Move over, iPhone5, it is time to switch to Lumia – Lumia 920.

  1. The big question is: Will Nokia sell NL920 in Nigeria officially? Microsoft has done their own part of adding Nigeria to the windows marketplace.
Mr Mo, what do you think?

    1. I know Microsoft once included Nigeria in their markets for WP. But while checking the regions on their marketplace last week I noticed Nigeria was missing in action. I hope they open up to us. Every manufacturer is doing that right now including apple. The more the regions/countries, the more attractive the product and more sales of course.

  2. I love both devices; Apple’s store and Lumia’s design (plus I’m feeling the yellow color. Chinko phones have put me off Red colors). But at the end of the day, would rather go home with Ms Lumia.

P.S Why is there plenty of hate (sufficient to last a life time) towards Iphone 5, is it cos of the $1bn lawsuit?

  3. We are not hating on the iphone5. It’s a beautiful device. I love the weight loss too. However, it’s not compelling enough. There is nothing it offers that competition doesn’t already have. Some apple fans kept shouting about ability to integrate and post on facebook, android has been doing that for years. If it’s the silky smooth ios6,both jellybean and WP8 been there. Hey, the WP8 is dsmn more elegant. I must get that WP. Even if it’s the WP7. There is nothing new iphone5 is bringing to the table. If it’s the 450k apps, like Mr Mo said, I have the essentials on WP8 and more than enough on Android play store.

I think it’s just the noise that gets to people. Why make so much noise about a device that offers nothing new? I give it to them when the iphone4s was launched with siri. Siri was damn revolutionary. Nothing comes close, not even the s-voice. Google-now seems a good competitor though.

  4. To me nothing comes close to Android now…Galaxy S111 beat the two. Do you know that most of the best premium apps you are eyeing are free on Android and work very fine if you don’t mind the ads.

  5. Yes, I agree that the Nokia 920 beats the iPhone 5 in terms of screen pixel count and perhaps its maps IN NIGERIA. But in terms of camera and elegance in UI, I believe that you’re jumping the gun.

Admittedly, on paper, the “Pureview” technology looks great. But then, the taste of the pudding is in the eating. There is no retail copy of the iPhone 5 and Nokia 920 available to do an honest, hands on practical comparison as we speak now. Until such a contest is done by third parties, then you cannot realistically claim or presume that the 920’s camera is better than the iphone 5’s camera.

And we also know that the 920 camera is not the exact same specification implementation as found on the 808. Though they both bear the same “Pureview” Name for their cameras!

  6. Why wouldn’t Mr Mo choose the Lumia 920 over the iPhone 5? Its got everything anyone would want in a phone and its not locked or tied down tightly to Nokia like the iPhones are tied to Apple lockdown system.

I will choose ANY smartphone over an iPhone any day 😀

By the way, i am still looking for a buyer for my iPhone 4 16Gb with no success. Its been almost a year and no offer yet. Not even from afewgoodmen. 🙁

Sir, how did you manage to get yourself in such a bad position in the first place? Well, I think it is not as bad as we are trying to make it sound. I believe your wife will appreciate it if you will pass the device to her, after all iPhone still has its elegance and class, only that might not be so health in your location.

  8. @Harry,

Don’t mind me o! I always get myself into bad situations when it comes to mobile devices

Thanks for your advice but madam will have nothing to do with an iPhone.

On a more serious note, I believe Apple has reached the peak as far as innovations and creativity is concerned. And when this happens to anyone, the only way left is the downward way. I am not a prophet of doom but write it down. Apple’s glorious days are over. Unless they come up with something revolutionary, the way is only downhill for them.
