Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 15254.1 for Mobile is out

Windows Insider preview 15254.1 for Mobile to Windows Insiders in the Fast and Slow rings was released a few days ago and is currently being downloaded to my Lumia 950. I am on the Insiders Preview Slow ring.

Ordinarily, a software update would come with some measure of excitement. But as we shared recently, Microsoft isn’t adding new features to Windows Phone any more. From now on, it is all about bug fixes and security updates.

What’s In Windows Insider Preview 15254.1 For You?

Microsoft’s announcement of this software release spells it out just like we said:

This update only includes quality improvements and no new OS features.

Microsoft says that the update includes “all the same fixes from Build 15252 and also includes all the improvements from KB4041676”. A lot of stuff in the software update is targeted at entreprise users, which means not the average person. Corporate IT administrators will be more interested in this stuff.

In addition, there is some technical jargon here and there. Does it matter to most users, including you? Probably not. There are no new features. Just patches and fixes, most of which have nothing to do with every day users.

Microsoft says that this build is the current release candidate for the Fall Creators Update for Mobile. In simple English, this is internal testing software (it is an Insider’s preview after all) for the Fall Creators Update for Mobile, so expect the proper production update to roll out soon.

Install It Anyway

If your Windows Phone runs Windows 10 Mobile and you are on the insiders’ programme, you should install the update anyway. Perhaps your Windows Phone smartphone will run smoother. Perhaps it won’t. Bug fixes and security updates are not bad things.
