Windows Phone will get BBM soon [Updated!]

BBM on Windows Phone

Yesterday, at the YTech100 event at Four Points by Sheraton, Lekki, I mentioned to a smartphone industry insider that the only app I am currently missing on my Lumia 1520 is BBM, and he said not to worry. He assured me that an agreement has been reached and that BBM will be coming to Windows Phone soon. When I referred him to the statement credited to BlackBerry’s Senior Director of BBM Business Development in January, he assured me that BBM is coming to Windows Phone soon.

My source is a trusted person in the industry, so I am sticking my neck out on this one. Of course, you could also argue that I am doing this because I really hope that the news is true, and you would be correct. Yes; I want BBM on my Lumia. No other instant messaging app does it for me like BBM does.

Keeping fingers crossed!

Update 24th Feb. 2014

Now officially confirmed:

The official BlackBerry blog has a little more details:

The BBM team is hard at work on BBM for Windows Phone and Nokia X as well as lots of great new features for BBM that we can’t wait to tell you about. BBM will be available as a free download for Windows Phone users this summer.

Summer. That’s June, July, August.

Mister Mobility

I started blogging about mobile in 2004 as a fun way to share my passion for gadgets and mobile services. My other interests include digital media, speaking and teaching, photography, travelling, and dancing.

I keep hearing absurd things about Windowsphone.

    Things like..

    Windowsphone cannot record telephone conversation

Cannot maintain a call history where call duration can be checked…You need an app.

The music player cannot be terminated unless with another (paid?) app..

This is in addition to well known deficiencies which are being gradually addressed, piecemeal.

Each time I am tempted to go the Windowsphone Way, I get new, startling, ridiculous revelations.

The addition of BBM may make the platform more desirable to some, but the core issues need to be addressed ahead of the paucity of apps, to put it in contention .
